Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 15, 2009 1:16 pm Hi guys, I've decided to split the aerial into 4 and put it into 3 other rooms of my 1yr old house, however I've hooked up a splitter and got all the cable but I can't seem to get it from up in the roof down the wall. I tried to put one cable down through a hole in a beam that has electricity cable going into it (I'm assuming it's the one going down to the power point in that particular room because it's the only electricity cable in that area) but when I go down into the room and take the socket out of the wall the aerial cable is nowhere to be seen. How to aerial installers usually get the cable down the walls when putting into different rooms of a house? I'm quite confused on how it's done because of cross studs inside the wall but love doing things myself so I want to do it myself without paying an antenna person. Any help is greatly appreciated! Re: Help Needed Putting Aerial Cable Into Wall 2Dec 15, 2009 1:36 pm 1) Disconnect power to that power point from the main circuit board and test to make sure no power as available. 2) Undo power cable from power point and attach some string using some duct tape that will be long enough that it will not go into wall cavity. 3) Go into roof and pull cable up 4) now attach aerial cable with some tape. 5) Go back down stairs and pull string which will have everything attached to it back down. Assume you get okay reception normally and each cable run is <10 meters. Thanks. Pretty certain it won't need to be amplified, because my neighbour has the same antenna as I do and he has his split 4 ways and has perfect reception on all televisions. Only difference is he had his split while they were building the house. I've used about 15 meters of cable each for the back two rooms and 10 meters for the 3rd at the front. Re: Help Needed Putting Aerial Cable Into Wall 6Dec 15, 2009 4:18 pm No chance of coming up from under the floor? You can also use some spade bit extensions to drill a new hole in both top plate and noggin. Make sure they are well tightened up though as you could easily lose your extension in the wall cavity if it comes loose. If all else fails, cut a hole in the plaster over the noggin, chisel out enough wood to allow the cable to pass, fill the hole with patching plaster and re-paint. Re: Help Needed Putting Aerial Cable Into Wall 7Dec 17, 2009 11:45 pm If you have access to the wall cavity from above and it's an external wall, then tape the cable to a length of yellow-tongue flooring "tongue" or PVC pipe (like electrical conduit) and guide it down the wall. Cut a new opening to suit your wall plate, and use a coathanger bent to a hook to locate the cable if it's not directly in front of you. May sure you turn off the power before fishing around with the coat hanger, as not all power points are completely sealed. If it's an internal wall you are probably getting hung up on the noggin. Drilling a new hole with an extension bit is the best way, but you may need a weighed string to get through the hole, then pull the cable through. An old plumb bob works well. I would recommend against running your antenna cable down the wall alongside an electrical cable as it's an easy way to introduce interference. I'd run them seperately, then bring them closer together at the wall point. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you doing this with a building permit?
