Just thought i would post this as we had a bit of a disaster of our own today. No damage done to our house and no one injured luckily but the actual BBQ is a bit worse for wear now. It is a timely reminder as we are all in celebration mode at this time of the year and BBQ's are usually on the top of our agenda.
A faulty gas bottle fitting along with a damaged O ring in our regulator hose caused the Gas bottle to catch on fire thus damaging our BBQ. I was mostly concerned with the Gas Bottle exploding but thank God it didn't and the Fireman told us that it would never have exploded as the gas inside the bottle is too cold to do so.
As you can imagine i was frantic, my 3 year old son was asleep inside the house and the BBQ was just beside the back door so i could not get in easily to get my keys to go around to the front of the house to get him out. Cutting a long story short the neighbours came over to help while my hubby went inside and got my son and called the Fire Brigade. We just couldn't get the fire to stop cause the flames would not allow your hands to get in and turn the Gas off.
Please everyone check your BBQ's before you use them. We had only checked all of the fittings on ours about 2 months ago when we got a new Gas Bottle as the old one was empty. This is only the second time we had used the new bottle.
Oh My Gosh, What A Day
