Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 02, 2009 6:24 pm Hi Guys, Just got pricing back on installing gas bayonets outside for a heater and a BBQ and came back at $2500 with a manifold box. (thats a pre start for a brand new house, hence why I think I could be getting ripped off a little bit) Just wondering if people think it's worth the money and what other people have paid for them New and after a house was built? Also how hard is it to get installed after the house has been built? Cheers, Re: Outdoor Gas Bayonets 2Dec 02, 2009 6:30 pm ouch! that seems a little expensive to me. I would have thought it would just require a gas run in to the location then the fitting of a bayonet coupling to suit the appropriate male connection. Re: Outdoor Gas Bayonets 3Dec 02, 2009 7:08 pm our house is on bearers and joists rather than a slab, but we got a plumber to put a bayonet fitting on our outdoor deck and it cost maybe $250 about 8 years ago. All they did was tap into the existing pipework and put a normal bayonet fitting there. Re: Outdoor Gas Bayonets 5Dec 02, 2009 8:33 pm Thanks guys, Yep emailed the builder to explain themselves and why they have quoted me such an horrific price. Will let you know how it goes!! Re: Outdoor Gas Bayonets 7Dec 02, 2009 10:22 pm ... for a heater and a BBQ and came back at $2500 with a manifold box ... So are you saying you have 2 external gas points? Not sure what is a manifold box - is that something extra they need to install (and charge you )? We have 1 external gas point, $260. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Outdoor Gas Bayonets 8Dec 06, 2009 9:08 pm hmm sounds expensive, although do you have gas appliances planned for the house?, such as a heater, cook top, hot water. The reason i bring that up is that they may have to upgrade the gas line from the meter through the house, which can get expensive. The line must be able to supply every gas appliance in the house at the same time, the more you have and they're consumption rates determines how big the line has to be. Even though you would probably never use every gas appliance at the same time, it does have to have that capability. Thanks for letting us know.
