It was always going to be difficult moving from this rental direct to our house because we need a secure yard for our dogs, and need time to build bird aivaries, chook pen, cat run etc. His boss's house has most of that already... so we can drag out the move time while we get our house ready... and still only being half the rent amount as we would in this rental Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 23Nov 27, 2009 5:32 pm Well, until your house is finished, this seems like a prefect Xm present ... win-win situation too ... As for us, we'll just have to get out of the house at 1pm and come back at 10 until April because it feels like there's nothing between us and the SUN ............ aaaahhh Geez, our "old" demolished house had some fluff as roof insulation and I never realised how good it was! Also with these sliding winows ... they shake at the sight of winds ... geez, wonder what have we done !!! this place is worse than ours (and it hasn't been demolished yet!!!!!!! ... maybe we can help oh, no ...) Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 25Nov 28, 2009 10:30 am for me i am not impressed with some of the quality of the build but only very small things and there are many things i would have changed with the plan but as they had no display home of the house we build it made it very diffcult to work everything out. we have had a few things go wrong after the maintence period that we will now have to fix ourselves or have have already fixed only small things.like the toilet holders/towel rails falling of the walls. the toilet cisteran also coming of the wall, and then there is the broken light we have downlight we went to get the globle out and the thing broken and then there was all the railings in the wardode falling out and then theres the carcked tile in the bathroom only happened after maintence period end ithink they need longer time but they are only small things nothing big finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 26Nov 29, 2009 7:58 pm I thank my lucky stars every day that our house turned out as good as it did. When we signed with the builder I hadnt yet found homeone forums and didnt know how bad things can get with so many builders! I dont think I realised what a gamble we took until it was too late to have backed out. Lucky we are both thrilled with our home. theres a few things I hate - not enough storage space in kitchen... and who on earth puts a sink in a corner? Small Laundry...Lack of water pressure etc.. but these are most things controlled by our small FHO budget... not by ******* builders. Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 27Nov 30, 2009 3:28 am I'm pretty much like Jaded above, when we chose to build with Nava we really took a chance because no one appeared to have a history with them. we are now very pleased, but it is a gamble, it could have so easily been the opposite. here we are now, in 2 wks earlier than expected, the things to be fixed are so minor I can't even think of them, it's just **** me I can't find my card reader to upload the pics of the place more than anything to do with the builders. I def love my home, it is exactly as I imagined and as I slowly decorate with what I've been planning for months, it is coming together really well. I'm so sad to hear of others that don't have my experience. Joles, you gotta whole lot of stress over xmas, hope they are done by then (and your brother, wtf???) I truly hope you guys that have had a rough trot don't let those responsible get away with it. Follow them up, even legally if you have to. I say this because surely you don't want them to go onto another unsuspecting eager home buyer (like us!!) and screw them over too. And let's face it, they will. I think ** workmanship is unnaceptable, and should be pursued, but I think poor design and "uh oh, I didn't think it would come out looking like that!!!" is future conversations with guests for years to come, and that's all. You've got to make the best of the situation, if possible, make it great! Make it worth it. Or else sell and go live in Paris... kidding A thankful person is a happy person. The actual build itself has been fantastic. It's just the compromise all the time. Feeling a bit deflated and over it. Hopefully it will all pass when we are in and hopefully will enjoy the space. It is a nice house, the process is somewhat "trying" and a true relationship test. I am not embracing this house as I was at the start. Sick of being told for what you CAN have as opposed to what you would LIKE in your own home. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 29Dec 04, 2009 9:23 pm Hi everyone, I know this is a bit off the topic , but could someone let me know how you can make sure the kitchen laminate benchtops dont get covered in glue and muck whilst in the process of building. We have built once before and our son has just built (both times with project builders) , and the same problem has happened whereby when it comes to handover the benchs have been cleaned but you can see the marks where there has been glue or some other mucky stuff been on there, and no matter how I tried to get it off it somehow wont budge and when the light hits the kitchen benches you can see it is 'not quite nice and smooth looking' As we are now building again is it okay to ask our supervisor to put some sort of covering over the bench or could we do it ? Could we put bubble wrap and masking tape to keep it pristine ? We are not sure what the protocol on this is .. Please help us as we have paid extra to get a nice quality laminate .. Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 30Dec 04, 2009 10:19 pm I would ask the SS's permission to go in and cover them up. If he says no, then ask for it in writing that the builder assumes all responsibility for protection of the benchtops and will replace any that are marked during the course of the build. Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 31Dec 04, 2009 10:29 pm I always hear the stories of I'm never building again or never build... but I didn't really find it that stressful at all.. when the house was finished I was disappointed it was all over so quick! but yeah in 5-10 years time I will be building again for sure.. would much rather do that then buy established. Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 32Mar 10, 2010 2:13 pm What if you choose the display house design (without customizing it further)? I guess the outcome will be 98% like the display or anyone experiencing that it looks so much different? Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 33Mar 10, 2010 2:35 pm The outcome is in the hands of each individual trader, even if you contract for a house with identical changes and finishes as the display house. You can try and ask for things to be fixed - that's in the good hands of your SS. Some SSs hope that you'll accept any excuse and will refuse to fix even the obvious things, some will fix even small things. Overall, it's the luck of the draw. It was a good experience and we learned the ropes a bit. There were disappointments but overall we were happy with the finished product. There are things that we say we'd never do again (e.g. settle for builders standard kitchens). We're building again. The kids are grown and gone and it's time to downsize. We're only at the early stages (engineer's report). The big difference now seems to be how long it takes to build. No doubt we'll make mistakes and there will be disappointments again but in the end it's what you bring to your home that makes the difference. Family, friends, pets, neighbours are all a part of that. I've learned to make a home of everywhere I've lived whether it be a 2 bedroom unit or a 4x2 house. It's good to rise to the challenge of building new memories in a new place as you take your old memories with you. Sorry if I'm too philosophical today Handover February 2011 Happy with our home Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 36Mar 10, 2010 4:21 pm tempura Lex The outcome is in the hands of each individual trader, even if you contract for a house with identical changes and finishes as the display house. We are seeing some things that I never heard of and never saw or heard that others have - so you can't prepare for everything, since you don't even know if a certain piece of work could go wrong, not to mention how and why, and what to do to prevent it from happening. So, the luck of the draw is my conclusion again. If the house structure is built solidly and on solid foundations, smaller things will be forgotten and forgiven, but the key word is "if". Sometimes the answer awaits a few years down the track. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ...
