Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 11, 2007 11:54 am Hello!
We want to build a shed, maybe 5 x 6 metres (like a double garage shed) Has anyone here built one that size, did you get someone to build it or did you try to do it yourself? We have found a few kits that are around the $5000 mark but thats only kit form and on top of that you have to build it and lay concrete. My parents are willing to help lay the concrete and help build it so that should save some moolah. The companies charge around 3k to lay concrete and 1.5k to build the shed. Opinions, ideas?? Our Adenbrook home was completed in September. Re: Building a Shed 2Jul 11, 2007 2:19 pm Those prices are certainly similar to what I've seen.
The only real issue with putting them together yourself is everything! nah, just being dramatic. When my dad did his fairly recently, there were parts missing, the isntructions were for the wrong sort of frame, and they needed 4 people to do it. Quite a challenging exercise, but certainly worth the $'s if you can organise. Re: Building a Shed 3Jul 11, 2007 2:38 pm I built a 6m x 7m Colourbond double kit garage many years ago. It was pretty easy really.
I levelled out the ground, put up the formwork edging, layed down the plastic and reo. I ordered the concrete and got the local Italian concreter to finish the surface for me. It probably took a couple of mates and myself two weekends and a few of slabs of beer to build the garage. My only mistake was making the slab too big. You see, I thought I would make it bigger, just to be sure. But the wall sheets drop past the edge of the slab to stop water coming in. I had to trim the sheets to meet the top of the slab and the waterproofing wasn't as good. After years of working under makeshift shelters, this garage was luxury. Great value as well. Re: Building a Shed 4Jul 11, 2007 4:37 pm We are in the process of building a shed at the moment - 50x30ft, so about 15x9m. It's not that bad, but we have built one before. We have had one or 2 things that weren't there, but stuff that was easily fixed. Didn't really get any instructions as such, just a layout of the measurements for the footings, and a list of all the parts - 50million tech screws, 10 bolts etc.
It's really not that hard, especially if you get a few people around to help. Good fun too, better than paying someone else to do it for you, would definitley build one again by ourselves. We will pay someone to come and lay the concrete after we have finished though. Should add too - the shed it's self is zinc, not colourbond (wasn't worth the extra $$$ to us), and cost $12,500, and the concrete slab will cost about $5000 to get it done by someone else. Re: Building a Shed 5Jul 11, 2007 7:20 pm We paid $6500 for our shed for 4.5m x 5.5 m including construction, concrete pad, shire approval etc. The shed was built to our exact size (didn't need to compromise on measurements). May have been Fair Dinkum shed (??) , but built by a local company - we were very happy with it. The only down side was waiting about 15 weeks for construction due to the busyness of building in WA. Luckily we ordered in advance so it was finished the same time as our house. Re: Building a Shed 6Jul 11, 2007 7:32 pm Luckily, I work in a building manufacturing industry and today I spoke on the phone to one of our customers and I had a great price for a 5x6mtr colourbond shed with an extra wide single roll a door in kit form for $3600. We will most likely built it ourself for free and the slab would not be more than $1000, so it wouldn't be more than $5000 all up. Not bad, I think!!
I am happy with that price I didn't know how expensive sheds were Our Adenbrook home was completed in September.
