Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 09, 2007 7:38 am I have masonite ceilings which are butt joined with edge stripping.
I've removed the strip and have used tape with a basecoat plaster to cover the join. In some instances I get cracking. What is the science behind why masonite cracks in this situation, yet gyprock doesn't? Re: Plastering question 2Jul 09, 2007 8:47 am I'm far from an expert on plastering but did you use ezi tape or paper tape.
I know that ezi tape on plaster ceiling joints can crack. Peter Clarkson - AusDesign Australia www.ausdesign.com.au This information is intended to provide general information only. My guess on the cause is due to the difference in thickness of the masonite (3mm) versus the gyprock (10mm). Either the masonite sheet is too flexible or the plastering behind the tape is too thin (3mm on the masonite). Another tape exists for external wall plasting - thicker and has a plastic feel with a rough backing - would this have a chance of working? OR Should I secure the masonite with additional screws in order to stiffen the sheet.? If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8288 thank you! do we need to get this or our builder before we commence new build on the block? 2 10261 You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want.
