Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 12, 2009 7:51 am Hi all, I have a 3 bedroom apartment and currently it has a bare floor since the old carpet and underlay were recently ripped out. I am waiting for the new carpet and underlay to be laid on Monday next week but also want to get a pest control done as a precautionary measure. I am yet to paint the skirtings, and wanted to know if I should get the pest control done: a) Before I paint the skirtings and before the new carpet is laid b) After I paint the skirtings but before the new carpet is laid c) After the skirtings are painted and the new carpet has been laid. Speaking to the pest control guy, it looks like they will be using a spray, especially around the skirtings, and some gel in kitchen cupboards etc. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Re: Pest Control - do before or after new carpet is laid? 3Nov 13, 2009 10:03 am I'm not a full book on pest control, but your plan may have some problems... Specifically, painting is yet to be done, and carpets are being laid on Monday. Paints may dry within hours, but they tend to take a couple of weeks to fully cure. So I'd check with the layers about that. They may not want to work around fresh paint. Also, (for similar reasons) applying pest control to freshly painted surfaces may be problematic. There could be some sort of reaction between the paint and insecticide. Why do you want it sprayed inside anyway? I'm not a fan of using insecticides inside the home. And a general tip while the floor is bare... make sure its nice and clean, vacuumed, mopped and dried. (Whiteley's Viraclean is a good product to use to mop it with). Look for any lumps or bums or unevenness. Then check that all the carpet gripper is secure. There should be no movement, and an even gully between the gripper and wall, normally about 7mm. If anything needs attention, make sure the layers fix it before installation. Ash. I think based on your feedback I might be best to just hold off on the pest control until the carpet is laid and the skirting boards have been painted and cured. I'll probably get it done early next year. Cheers! Hi group, have some damage to the door frame and skirting board. It's a side door to the laundry area. Only has a security door.
