Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 10, 2009 7:19 pm We are going to build a double storey brick home and wanted it to be rendered. The builder suggested only rendering the front of the home as it would cost about $50,000 extra for a total render. Is this correct? Thank you for any information. Re: Rendering 2Nov 10, 2009 7:26 pm Our house is rendered across the front and a little around the sides then it is bagged from there back. It would be very expensive to render the whole house. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Rendering 4Nov 10, 2009 9:00 pm $50,000 ? Work out how many square metres of render you have and multiply it by about $40-45/m2. That should give you a fair indication of what it will cost you. Say your house is 20 metres long and 10 metres wide over 2 floors (so about 400m2 floor area). Even not deleting doors or large windows and allowing 6 metre high walls for easy calculation, even at $50m2 you only come to about $18,000 for the whole house. Very pricey and don't forget needs maintenance approx. 10 years for cracks. If it is the look you want don't compromise, nude brick just doesn't cut it these days. Re: Rendering 6Nov 11, 2009 11:36 am Wow I didn't realise how expensive rendering is! Considering I am doing a Duplex (so the whole thing is over 60 squares) it wil save me alot if I didnt render - oh well cant comprimise with that. JuleR have you got some pics of a house with just render at the front? Or do you simply mean all brick home with a few rendered feature walls? DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Re: Rendering 7Nov 11, 2009 11:57 am McKinnon, If your house is about 15 x 15 or 22 x 10 220 squares per level total external wall areas about 450sq mtrs including windows. 450 x 50 = 22500 Working at height is an extra cost... you could have a sprawling house with detached rooms I am trying to see a 1000 sq mtrs and 50 x sq is a lot for a big house Are you talking plus internal ... so there could be HW plaster as well? soz for the 20 ????s Onc McKinnon Yep around $ 40-50 sq m. It's going to cost us around $50k for our 45sq 2 storey house. Very pricey and don't forget needs maintenance approx. 10 years for cracks. Re: Rendering 11Nov 11, 2009 12:56 pm We were quoted around $5,000 for acrylic render to just the front of our double storey house. It's a house for a 14m wide block so it's not especially large either. I imagine it would cost obscenely more to go around the sides where there are fewer windows and no garage door. Foam and render is probably closer to $80-90/m2. I too wondered what was going on with a $50k render job to a house. Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: Rendering 13Nov 11, 2009 1:55 pm Hi everyone, Our house will be approx 32 squares. I am only talking about render to external and the render is for the brickwork as both stories will be brick. Because we are on a hill, we do get some high winds and it has been advised that we do total brick. One of the reasons the builder said it would cost so much is because they have to hire scaffolding etc (health and safety issues). Thanks for all your input, I agree that the paler bricks do not cut it! Our house will not be as visible from the sides hence the builder suggesting just rendering the front. Decisions, decisions! Re: Rendering 14Nov 11, 2009 9:54 pm We're being charged just under 20k for our 48sq house. For double storey houses you also need to factor in the cost of scaffolding as well. For my own house I got quotes over $40k! But the one I did eventually go with was around $20k… $5k to erect, $5k to dismantle, and weekly hire of $2k per week for 5 weeks. So I think Julie R’s quote of $50k for foam, render and scaffolding would be about right.
