It's not funny anymore. I am a little bit lower than them, so they just hang their elbows over the fence (1.4m)to complain. They no longer talk to me, but talk to my dad and my fencing contractor.(males) They complain about the lean on the fence, but it dosn't stop them from leaning on it while trying to get our attention. I find it really rude, and if they want to have a chat... come around, dont just hang over the fence invading my privacy. I build a 2.3m privacy screen to my courtyard, my fencing guy explained it was for privacy, their kitchen looks straight into my lounge room, and my neighbour said it was cow manure that I needed privacy WTF???? I have asked my fencing contractor to come around with all his mates and sunbake naked so they get the idea of privacy. Every day they tell me this screen is too high, and every day I tell them its been approved by council, and they tell me that council will pull it down, then they tell me they are going to build one. WTF, I cant have one but you can. First they say they dont want a beautiful rendered wall on the boundary, fine, i build it on my side, the dont like that either, then they want it build the whole length of the block WTF. Before that, the garage is on the boundary, they want the fence reerected next to the garage wall...why because the garage is not a fence, not is not, but it is still a barrier to stop people from getting in. Then they dont want a new fence, then they do want a new fence but dont want pay, then the old fence gets reerected in the gap and concreted in, then they want this concreted pole, which the neighbour demanded to be concreted in, to be moved....WTF, Then they want my airconditioner moved... I cant handle it any more. I loathe to visit my house, I will not walk down that side of the house anymore. I would be nice to have a new fence, but I dont think they can afford it, so I haven't mentioned it. The wife just says things for the sole purpose of upsetting me, like we are going to put a basketball ring on your garage for the grandkids...really? I think what about that precious rose that you told me about that is next to the garage wall, and those two scrubs that were damaged... What pisses me off the most is, the fence is 11cms on my side of the boundary, so when they are hanging over the fence, they are actually on my land.. I better stop now before I blow an artery. The newest one is, I need to do something to prevent THEIR stormwater from coming onto my property. You poor thing if they were my neighbours I'd be hosing their little pin heads each and every time they stuck them over the fence please please please don't let them rule your life tell 'em to F off and get the hose out ready for their next "visit" OR put something sharp along the top of the fence YES! beautiful idea SuH Re: HOORAY for awesome neighbours!! 23Nov 09, 2009 5:36 pm Quote: You poor thing if they were my neighbours I'd be hosing their little pin heads each and every time they stuck them over the fence please please please don't let them rule your life tell 'em to F off and get the hose out ready for their next "visit" OR put something sharp along the top of the fence YES! beautiful idea SuH I cant do that, I saw a lady on Judge Judy go to court for spraying a lady with a hose for letting her dog wee on her lawn. I am just over it. I do have the desire to spray a little poison over the fence, but I am not that nasty. They are in their 80's, so they wont live forever. They are not awful people, they just have nothing else going on in their lives, and my house has blocked out their view. They have a fibro house which is 1 meter above the ground, so they used to see all the cars coming up the street and now they see nothing. My boyfriend at first said I wasnt being nice enough, since he erected the fence, his attitude has now changed to that they are spiteful people. I reckon council hate them now too. They must be on the phone, or go down every week. What is hard is that my Dad has owned the block for 30 years, and he is stuck between them and me. They dont get the fact that I own it now, and still talk to Dad about issues not me. I guess my neighbour did try, he stuck his head over the fence and tried to have a talk, and I said look I am so stressed I can't deal with you complaining anymore. I guess that worked as they complain to dad and the contractors now. Many years ago we added a second level to our existing house and the neighbour put in an objection because it blocked her view of the street she got nowhere with that but once it was built we painted it white and she continually complained about how glarey it was and made me go into her kitchen so I could see for myself.....I looked at it and it wasn't glarey at all and I told her so, they wanted us to paint it another colour even though the rest of the house was white but...having her continually make a point of it and waiting for me to get home to pounce turned me into a nervous wreck. Re: HOORAY for awesome neighbours!! 25Nov 09, 2009 7:42 pm I know this isn't a thread about bad neighbours, but man there are some out there, aren't there? When I was pregnant with my second baby, DH fully intended to get a column heater for the nursery - we had already bought one for DD's room. This was because our ducted heating upstairs had a very noisy unit on the fence line, which annoyed the neighbours at night. So we were very scrupulous about keeping within the legalities and turning it off at 10pm every night (DH is a stickler for that sort of thing). This was despite the fact that our neighbour was a musician by trade who practised his music extremely loudly all day every day which made it very hard for my DD to have her daytime naps. Anyway, DS surprised everyone by arriving early and was quite ill with jaundice - DH was working hugely long hours at work and everything was very chaotic. The hospital finally let us home on a Wednesday - DH had to work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to catch up on missed time while my Mum flew from Hobart to look after us. So DH planned to go on the Saturday to buy the column heater. It was August in Melbourne, freezing cold and DS was very sick - so I put on the ducted heating and left it on. On the Friday morning the EPA turned up on our doorstep - our neighbours had reported us for noise pollution without even discussing it with us. I answered the door with my sick child in my arms and explained to the EPA man the circumstances. He was very embarrassed and apologised for having to follow up all reports. We bought the column heater as planned but I never never spoke to that neighbour again, even when they greeted me in public - I was so very very angry. On the bright side, our neighbour on the other side was a lovely elderly man who spoilt our children rotten - we still keep in touch with him even though we have moved. He told us that the people who bought our house told the neighbours to get stood on when they complained about the noise and regularly leave the noisy unit on all night and the neighbours are threatening to take them to court - I laughed my socks off when I heard that, bet they miss us as good neighbours now ! Ok, rant over, so glad Caz has nice neighbours - now we have a 5 acre block, we do not have to worry about neighbours anymore, they are too far away (although we have met a lot of them and they all seem very nice !) My air con is on a 1 meter boundary, and these neighbours are worried about the air blowing into their block. Which is fair I guess, apart from the fact the air con it 15meters from their house, and if my air con is on, they probably wont be outside. I told them I did not place it there, and I am sure it is legal otherwise the aircond guy would not of put it there. My neighbours rang council and council told them that I was allowed to have it there, but they could build something if it was noisy!!! So since my neighbours hate my privacy screen, they are going to build a screen in front of my aircon, I think it is brilliant that they are providing my air con some shade, but so far they have just erected broom sticks with string and ribbons attached to it. So funny. Re: HOORAY for awesome neighbours!! 28Nov 09, 2009 8:21 pm Hassling you must be giving them something to do - sounds like they need to get a life!!! Can't they go play bingo or bowls or something ???? I really want to tell them to mind their own business next time I see them, but I dont think my Dad would be too happy if I did that. Re: HOORAY for awesome neighbours!! 30Nov 09, 2009 8:31 pm I would think your Dad would be on your side if he knew how very silly they were being - maybe he could have a quiet word to them? It sounds like they have a fairly good relationship with him? It's awful that you are going to have to put up with grief long term, takes a bit of the shine off your new place really . I don't think there is anything I can say to make them happy. I am not pulling down my privacy screen so they can look into my house. My SS says he sees her peering through the curtains, I told him to wave, so she knows that she can be seen spying. Sorry I have hijacked the thread, but awful neighbours make longer stories. Did you hear the one when my dad asked if they had had a look inside, and she replied no. So dad explained I was buildiing a 3 bedroom house... no she pipes up its a four bedroom!!! Mmm how would she know that unless shes been inside. ****** ***. The back window was jammed open, they didn't see anything. I presume it was night time. Quote: How are broom sticks and ribbons stopping air from blowing on their side? I think the broom sticks are the position they want to build a fence, not sure about the ribbons, but when the fence came down for my garage, they decided the boundary by tying ribbons around a string line, which they erected, this is how they determined my house was not build square on the boundary. Not by the survey pegs, but by their own string line. Re: HOORAY for awesome neighbours!! 36Nov 13, 2009 9:08 am hi all I had some great neighbours up north. Both were shift workers (opposite shifts) so i had to mow my lawn at 4pm so as not to disturb them The ones on the left were really quiet! once a year he would have a party for his birthday and play kevin bloody wilson. But always warned me ( and i don't don't mind kevin) the other side were great. Bit nosy but really caring. If they didn't see me for a couple of days they would knock on my door and make sure i was ok One time, after a cyclone he was up on my roof fixing his antenna (it was a duplex). I was sleeping as i had been put onto night shift for post cyclone startup. I walked out in my elmo pyjamas and told him off!! he came round later with a some giant chocolate muffins his missus whipped up as an apology! Can't stay mad at anyone who brings chocolate! Down here our neighbours are good. They are all a good deal older than us. One side has a dog that barks alot and the guy on the other side keeps to himself. We had some trouble in the street on night. OH was away. I walk out (in the jammies) and he was out. Told me to go in, he will handle it. I thought that was nice Neighbours one down are wonderful!!! Older couple and boy they are fun!! She is always giving me homemade sauces and stuff. I know if something happens i can go down there and ask for help it depends on the natural ground level, if they excavated their boundary wall needed to be built as a retaining wall.
