Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 05, 2009 3:31 pm has anyone had any experience with heat pump hot water systems. There seems to be a lot of negatives written about them and I have heard they do not work well in colder climates. We are in Victoria. Would you go heat pump or solar for your hot water? gas is not available so it solar will need an electric booster. Re: Heat Pump hot water system ? yes or no ? 2Nov 05, 2009 3:39 pm We have had a Rheem 315l heat pump for about 5 months now. No major issues with the noise...about the same noise level as an air conditioner condensor motor (as you would expect). Re: Heat Pump hot water system ? yes or no ? 4Nov 09, 2009 3:46 pm We've got the newer model Rheem - MPI325 (325L) I think its called which was the quietest on the Aussie market when we got it put in (AUG 09). No issues at all, water is always nice and hot, copes fine with four loooong showers in day along with washing up in the sink during the day and dishwasher load on semi-intensive at night (although don't dishwashers heat their own water?). Located in Brisbane's suburbs and it tends to work the most in the morning 6am - 9am. I would recommenr Quantum units. They have operated well and other suppliers rebadge them and sell them on. The operate on lower external temperatures and the company has the internal staff who actually know their products. Ring and discuss it with them. Heat recovery units will always have slower recovery times (time taken to reheat the water) than other types. Personally I am going with evacuated tubes with natural gas continuous flow back up. EV tubes work well.
