Christmas countdown - who else is hoping to be in?

*Sigh*

Count me out. They have decided to go into holiday mode early and work at a VERY relaxing pace. Light fittings and driveway arent being done until next year and they dont come back until the 11th of Jan so we are looking at moving in and the end of January.

Oh well, bright side is all our furniture shopping will be done during post Christmas sales!!!

Tiling, skirting and carpet finishes today. Painter going to finish painting the skirtings tomorrow. I have been really lucky to find brilliant tradies who were willing to work weekends to get the jobs done. Moving truck booked for Tuesday!!!

Carpet in, skirting down, just needs to be painted. We have started moving stuff in, just the big stuff to go- yipppeeeeeeeee!!!

They're running soooooo close to the wire here!!! The oven went in and is WORKING!! Today I got lights and powerpoints (but not TV connections - oh well ... who needs to see the news?!), aircon had a bit of a hiccup but will go in tomorrow ... the one BIG hold up ... PLUMBING!!! arghh!

Can't have 9 guests for christmas with only an ensuite toilet and ensuite vanity to wash dishes!! Plumber better be coming tomorrow!!!

Quite a bit will be left over until next year - rangehood, parts of the painting (in the existing house), some of the skirting wont be on (though I am hoping I might have door handles soon .. opening the doors with screwdrivers is a bit annoying ... especially when the screw driver is on the otherside of the door!), not quite sure how much of the plumbing will be done, I'll be missing the shaving cabinet in the ensuite and a couple of other things ... might get handles on the kitchen!

I've got so many people working on site ... painters, carpenters, joiners, electricians, flyscreen guy (don't know his official trade

!) ... where's the plumber?!?! :th:

I'm so jealous of those who get to breathe a sigh of relief because it is done ... but sorry to hear that some just aren't going to make it.

Well i made it have nearly finished the tiles have moved most the stuff and have set up 50% of the house official handover is tomorrow really could not spare 2hour + drive to do handover but they wont come to me..

They've started the final clean on our place, and the windows have been scraped of all the varnish and paint. So close! Apart from some minor (?) repairs - like where they cut squares in the plaster on a wall because they had to get the airconditioning pipes through the wall cavity we have:

Mirrors
Sliding doors on robes
Splashback
Carpenter to fit tower rails etc
Window screens
Our deadlocked selection of door locks
Roof cap to be mortared
a Down pipe

to be completed

plus those things like the hot water tank, air conditioning external unit that they will install only immediately before the hand over.

And, of course, the final preparation for our inspection.

Only a couple of weeks work... Sigh.

Congratulations to those who made it. I'm sure you're hoping for a really hot January so you can enjoy your air conditioning, whether evaporative or refrigerant (NO MORE FLAME WARS ON THIS TOPIC!), but I think that February should be the scorcher!

I was joking a couple of months ago when I said they'd be working Christmas eve ... I hate jokes that come back to bite you .... my tradies will be here today ... we have some plumbing, door handles ... but still missing bits from the kitchen! argh!!!

Quite a bit of the electrics haven't been finalised (plugs hanging off the walls), painting is not finished, bath doesn't work ... but enough works so that I can cook Christmas lunch.

Curtains went up yesterday ... thanks to my star of a brother!! They look pretty fabulous.

Just wish I had an extra week to clean up after the builders before more guests arrive!

I can't wait for this to be over and to have my house all to myself again ... peace, quiet, no radio, no waking up at 6:00 for the early arrivals ... no having to be dressed and presentable all the time!

It was completely nuts but I didn't cancel Christmas.

Builders finished off most of the stuff ... ovens were working (completely wow!), kitchen was stunning, dining room was beautiful ... if you didn't look too closely at the missing skirts in areas, the bits of plaster falling off the cornice, the holes in the bathroom, the laundry cupboards just leaning up there, the dishwasher without a front, no handles on the kitchen drawers/cupboards :shock:

But .. I was IN!

And I'm enjoying the peace and quiet today in my gorgeous new extension!
