Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 04, 2009 10:48 pm I need to have a mesh (see-through and not the diamond mesh) security screen door on the front - merely for creating breezes through the house. I appreciate people in Tasmania might not have the same need... So you fork out a fortune for lovely doors only to hide them behind security doors? How did you tackle this issue? Options 1. Live with it. Its the tropics. Who cars if you cant see your $1500 doors 2. Buy cheap crappy front doors and then you wont cry so much 3. Use a big single front door and it wont look so bad As usual you advice and/or photos much appreciated Re: How do you security screen your lovely front double doors 2Nov 04, 2009 11:10 pm Have you looked at the crim safe invisigard type stuff. Looks good but very pricey. I have also seen a wrought iron type screen door which has a design or pattern and looks sensational. Very tropical but alas also very expensive. I am planning, with hubbys help to weld together our own screen door. Its one of many DIY projects. We have a very large 1200 front door. Re: How do you security screen your lovely front double doors 4Nov 05, 2009 12:50 am I see what u mean. yeah u can see out of the crimsafe but it will hide the lovely front door behind it from the outside. I'd still choose the security door just for the airflow. U will see your lovely doors from inside though when the door is open and if you live in the tropics, it will be open most of the time. Re: How do you security screen your lovely front double doors 5Nov 05, 2009 5:55 am Hi dadandsue We had the same dilemma and I didnt end up putting any see through mesh door simply because the colour of my front door is a beautiful feature so why cover it up. So that was that....we open the other doors for the breezes, I know its not the same but beauty comes before practicality Mrs B Re: How do you security screen your lovely front double doors 6Nov 05, 2009 8:07 am Same as MrsB here - no screen doors on my double front doors. In fact we have never had screen doors on any of our front doors as they have always been nice doors. All the other doors have screens plus the windows as well so we open them up instead. Some things are worth waiting for. They look really smart and the framing comes in most colourbond colours (they even have a wood look colour, I know this as we have wooden doors and I want something to blend in and not detract from the door). They had a stand at our recent Home Show. The screens fit on to the door frame and pull across. (bit like a rollerblinds, but installed sideways, if that makes sense) You will only see them when in use. If you google Freedom flyscreens there is info there on their site describing what I am talking about. You may have a company similiar to them in your state. Re: How do you security screen your lovely front double doors 10Nov 05, 2009 7:17 pm We just have a standard front door so nothing fancy, but we painted the door in a light colour so it wouldn't get lost behind the screen door. We went with an invisiguard door which is see-through. It's probably still not the look that you want, but I'll post a pic anyway. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i60/Hels-b/House/11Oct2.jpg Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. I have lovely double front doors, and have no desire to cover them up with screen doors. I open up every other window and door which are screened, and let the breezes flow that way! The air gets through without the need for the front doors being open. It would just create a massive wind tunnel and slam the hallway doors into the family/kitchen/meals constantly! I've seen some wrought iron entry gates that are nice, it would keep everyone safe but not 100% sure I like the look Re: How do you security screen your lovely front double doors 19Nov 22, 2009 10:22 pm aaron4erin dadandsue Thanks for the replies. The bulk of the door comes into the house, but the little bit on the other side of the pivot goes the other way past the frame IYKWIM? We were told early on that you couldn't have screen doors with them so I'm not sure if you can or not. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
