Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Evap cooling question 21Nov 26, 2009 3:12 pm we have ducted evap in the rental i am in at the moment (NFI of floor size but its a massive 4 bed + study + 4 living room house so big) its a 2 story. The evap has kept the upstairs chilled to 20-22c so far no problems, the bottom floor does tend to heat up but the 2 main rooms we have complaints with are the master which is tuckted away from the rest of the house, the dining room which has 5 PCs running and the kitchen which has a massive north window and one flat mate likes to use the oven .. would install it in my next place no question, it helps that we can keep windows open on the 2nd story all the time so good ventilation would be nice but i think you can get stuff that auto does that now on evap. Re: Evap cooling question 22Nov 29, 2009 4:46 pm Nott we just tried our evaporative cooling last wkend ( 34'c). we did open one window ( a few inches) in the living area and also one in the master. After 45 mins, i still didn't feel chill . It's like turning on a fan in low. Ours is a Bonaire and we are still chasing for the manual. we can't check the temp cos it's not shown on the control. Did I miss anything to make it working properly? thanks nott Check to see if the water supply to your unit has an inline tap, and that it's actually turned on. We had exactly the same problem, turned out that nobody had bothered to turn the tap on before handover. A fantastic thing to discover on stinking hot cup weekend with a pregnant, uncomfortable and grumpy wife Unfortunately the tap was on the outside of the (double story & corrugated iron) roof, but I'm pretty handy and was able to knock up a tool to poke through a gap in the flashing and turn it on. If you can't find a tap or figure out if it's on, another indicator is to go into the roof and sit next to the unit when it's starting up. You should be able to clearly hear the sound of running water during startup. Cheers, Justin. Re: Evap cooling question 23Nov 29, 2009 5:55 pm We have evap in our current double story house. We have 6 outlets upstairs - one in each of the 5 rooms plus on in the passageway which is a larger vent. And we have one outlet downstairs (a larger vent) for the family/living/dining area. It works great. The only prob we have is that the downstairs vent is above the couch, so if someone is downstairs then because the vent is directly above them they typically want to turn it off, whilst we still need it on upstairs. Stupid placement is all. Otherwise it works a treat! Although mind you, it was quite an expensive model when it first came out 8-10 years ago, so I think that makes a difference. Sister in law has evap in her house, and it does NOTHING.
