In a way I would prefer that, at least it would be a bit more of a trek to the road! As it happens for us, we are in Melbourne's western suburbs and are the first house finished in our street, so the street is FULL of trucks, diggers, trailers, and other building vehicles EVERY DAY!! Good times. Re: Major Fencing Issues! 6Oct 27, 2009 7:22 pm Sorry to hear about your bad experience. It took us 3 months to get our side fence up but the company came last week to do it and they didn't become abusive, they just blamed the wet weather and having too much work on Re Consumer Affairs - I have just lodged a complaint about a removal company that we used (they damaged $1600 worth of our furniture). I can't give you any more info as it's still early days. But I just wanted to say that I think you should start with CA and take it from there. What right do they have to keep your money and become abusive? Bloody morons! Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." Re: Major Fencing Issues! 7Oct 27, 2009 8:06 pm I would ring consumer affairs and ask them what you should do. They offer very good advice! I had a similar deposit issue a few years ago with a blind company. CA said to write to the company and advise them that you want your deposit back or you will be lodging a complaint with CA within 7 days. I sent it via registered post and fax. I ended up getting a phone call in the afternoon and my money back within a few days. If they don't respond lodge a complaint with VCAT it only costs about $37. A friend of mine has recently been through VCAT, it takes a few weeks to get a hearing but they were very good and she had a good outcome. You don't have legal representation, but it is pretty straight forward. Just take all your evidence! Good Luck!! Re: Major Fencing Issues! 8Oct 27, 2009 8:23 pm Bree Bree Oh WOW... Haha... I would also suggest consumer affairs. Good luck, I hope you get the result you are after. Re: Major Fencing Issues! 10Oct 28, 2009 7:36 pm I feel your pain ! I cant say though that I'm surprised at their complete lack of professionalism. All Ive been trying to do for the last month is get a quote from fencing companies and even that seems too hard for them! good luck sorting it out ! Re: Major Fencing Issues! 11Oct 28, 2009 11:55 pm My wife & I recently moved into our new home in Sunbury and had issues getting fencing contracters to build a colourbond fence to separate the back from the front of our property with a gate. Most fencing contracters said, sorry too busy, too small a job etc. (where's the recession???) In the end we used John & Terry who are handymen from the Grey Army, who supplied a reasonable quote & delivered an excellent job in the end. We got in touch with them through the western / northern suburbs office. I think they mainly work in the Western Suburbs & no job is too small for them. The gate was professionally made by a company / contact of theirs and from quote to installation was about 6 days in total. Hope this helps, James Re: Major Fencing Issues! 12Oct 29, 2009 7:52 am I am a bit confused. Has this company done any work at all? You said the fence has been built, but you are just waiting for the gate. If you have only paid a deposit, did you at least get your deposits worth of work? I ordered a rainwater tank 10 weeks ago, and it still has not been ordered to be made yet...some companys suck. Re: Major Fencing Issues! 13Oct 30, 2009 7:42 pm Thanks guys - update... We threatened them with consumer affairs, and... We went back to our builders! We put in a complaint with them and advised that we had booked this ******* company in good faith because the builders had used them for the boundary fences, and our experience with the builders was awesome. We told them we thought this was a big mistake, and forwarded the entire email trail with all the abuse included! They were appalled and speechless, and took it up on our behalf, as they had booked in the boundary fences! The company has now agreed to refund the deposit (this was Wednesday), but so far has not happened, but I'll give it a few days for processing before I 'harrass' them to ask what's happening... The boundary fence that was built was paid by our builders, as it was included in our HL Package. So we didn't actually have to fork out any separate cash for that job, but we decided to book them to build us a gate and wing fence to block off the dead side too. This was about $880 - BTW, does anyone have an opinion on how reasonable this is? I've now started trying to book in another company to build our gate but the last quote we got from another local company was $990 for the gate alone! We didn't go with this based on the quote from ******* Brothers Who Shall Remain Nameless... I'll look into it as we are now thinking that my husband will build it himself, but if these guys give us a reasonable quote, it would save him the trouble (enough to do, working full time etc etc). Do you know if they do paling as well as colourbond? I am looking at building a house. Has anyone used Construkt Homes (based in Adelaide)? Does anyone have experience with this builder? 0 6459 12 5338 Industry type domestic contracts are prepared by industry bodies for the benefit of the builders.
