Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 24, 2009 8:55 pm Hi, I've never done repairs / work on top of the ceiling. Thing I've been doing has always been below the ceiling level. Now I'm wanting to change 1 of my downlight kit as it is faulty. Hence I have to climb on top of the ceiling and change it from there. The thing I want to know is ... if I'm on top of the ceiling can I step on anything or can I only step on the timber beams that are running accross the house? And can I step on any beams or only specific beams only? Your expert advice would be appreciated? Re: Working on top of the ceiling 2Oct 24, 2009 10:09 pm Good question. I looked at the roof trusses in my house today - plasterers have only just started - and I wouldn't like to wander about so freely as I did in the attic of my parent's turn of the century (previous) house. They are just not designed to support loads like the old style roof frames were. I do know walking on plaster is a recipe for a quick break through in life. I hope that the replacement kit does not involve working directly with mains voltage, because I would then be calling in an electrician. Pfiff Finally making progress again, with a clothesline (yippee) and some much needed little things being attended to over the holidays. 40 C on New Year's eve? We love our a/c! Re: Working on top of the ceiling 3Oct 25, 2009 8:45 am Fiffaro is right. DONT walk on the actual ceiling or you will go through and cause an awful lot of damage to it and yourself. Walk on the timbers and only those big enough to take your weight. If its a truss roof it can be tricky and you may need some crawl boards, OR call the electrician. Arfur Re: Working on top of the ceiling 5Oct 26, 2009 6:29 pm you dont have to get in the ceiling to do it, just pull the downlight fixture down from the ceiling, careful not to damage the ceiling or touch it as you cant clean ceiling flat paint, theres two springs on either side of the light fixture and a connector at the back of it. put your fingers on the entire fixture against the ceiling and pull it down abit and you'll see two springs which you must squeeze in to get the entire light down out of the hole 2 4463 I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 5168 Okay sorry silly me, my wife has solves the mystery for me. It’s because the labels on the ports are all wrongly positioned by the builder hence it confuses me. 2 920 |
