Plenty of lightning around today, at least I hope that is what started it, or more like someone burning off? Re: O oh bushfire! 12Oct 24, 2009 10:52 pm a scary time. we lived near a heavy bush zone/state forest in perth before we moved. early on. our first yr there. it all caught alight and we watched it spread from a small bushfire to a major incident. the sky to the north and west of us was a blaze. we had ash raining down in our yard and the roar and crackle of the fire was so very loud. it was a scary time. nothing like those over east would have experienced though it was still scary as the bush went all the way to the coast and at that stage there were only 2 roads in and out of our suburb and one was cut off by bushfire. we also had bush to the direct west of us and not far away a small amount of bush to the east. now we've moved to a small country town with much bush around parts of it and a state forest reserve even closer to us that we had in perth. They've just spent the week burning back into the state forest all around the edges and firebombing within to remove some of the under growth and fuel. its been a week of smoke and stink and although it's been horrible to be in the middle of it I'm so grateful it's been done. hope your haven is as beautiful as ever Onc. It is still howling ENE. I recon they will set fire to the rest by accident My heart rate has reduced a lot Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: O oh bushfire! 14Oct 24, 2009 11:51 pm Last summer we had fire come with in a few houses of here. Just opened the front door and it smells pretty strong of smoke but very ashy. Maybe lightning strike as we had some near here. At least the bush near us can't burn so well. I was talking to a bloke once and he was saying with controlled burns here in WA, if they burn in late winter early spring, that area will not be a fire hazard for 3 years. After 3 years the fire will be easy to bring under control. after 5 years it is much harder. Onc, I hope you get some sleep tonight. Re: O oh bushfire! 15Oct 25, 2009 12:42 am Onc, my thoughts are with you and those affected by the fire. BTDT. In 2002 our then house had flames licking at the walls. We got Elvised, thank goodness. It was a long week. I hope you have some things packed in case you need to go in a hurry. We had everything packed and in the car just before we were ordered to evacuate. I'm grateful we had a chance to get everything that was irreplaceable out safely. I too hope you get some sleep tonight. Judie Re: O oh bushfire! 16Oct 25, 2009 1:00 am Thanks All is quiet here ... still ENE so can not smell smoke or see ash.
