Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 23, 2009 5:39 pm I have a 1 year old home and have noticed one of my stormwater downpipes has been overflowing at the bottom, so i called a drainer out to fix it, and he used a cctv camera down the pipe and found bricks broken in my pipe, the only way to remove the bricks is to dig up my concrete and replace the pipe, i know this is going to be expensive, i have contacted the builder and i'm waiting from a reponse, they are already trying to say it's not there problem, i know they are going to be trying to get out of the expense to fix it, i'm just wondering has anyone had this problem, and what are my chances the builder is going to foot the bill, or maybe do i have to get legal advice, or are there people out there that can break bricks in pipes without digging up my concrete, can anyone help please? Re: Anyone had a blocked stormwater pipe? 2Oct 23, 2009 6:21 pm Get a copy of the video footage and present this to the original builder. It may not have been the drainers fault ( they would have to certify their work under their plumbing licence) but it sounds very much like it all happened during the construction period of your home. Worst case is you take it to the BACV for them to intervene. Good luck Dirk Re: Anyone had a blocked stormwater pipe? 3Oct 23, 2009 7:14 pm Thanks Dirk, I already have a copy of the video and will be sending to the builder, i cant believe a full brick in two pieces is stuck in my downpipe how can this happen why dont builders close the connection off while the house is being built to stop this kind of thing happening. Re: Anyone had a blocked stormwater pipe? 4Oct 24, 2009 10:01 am This is a common problem on domestic and some commercial building sites under construction especially with plumbing pipes that stick up through the slab. We have in the past tore apart walls on 2 storey homes and pulled up concrete etc to clear blockages of timber, stones, and brick offcuts etc that dear little children have put there. Another destructive swine even poured rapid set down a floor waste! I think the builder will back away from any responsibility (as is the norm) and with legal fees added in will cost the same if you pay for it yourself. Sorry I know this is a serious problem Good luck with getting the bricks out, is there a remote way they could get to them ? Re: Anyone had a blocked stormwater pipe? 7Oct 25, 2009 6:33 pm The only way to get to the pipe is to dig up the concrete, is there any type of machine out there, that might be able to break the bricks up? Agreed. I just found out today the certifier has not given the final sign off. 2 4072 Plumbers 'can be' plumbers, made all the worse by self certification which the building surveyor invariably accepts as proof of compliance! The good thing is that you know know. 3 4846 Hi All! I have engaged a plumber to re-do the stormwater drainage system on my property which is mid-70s and had blocked/cracked clay pipe drains.
