Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 22, 2009 2:52 pm Hi everyone, I'm posting this here and another spot as well hoping to find someone who knows about this sort of thing. I had some roman blinds installed by a carpet/curtain place. I wasn't there when they were installed as our new house is on a farm and is 15 minutes from where we are currently living. I couldn't be there but my husband let him in (the house is unfinished ATM). I noticed a quite deep dent in my Freestyle benchtops and a small chip in the top coat. My husband seems to think it would have to have been quite a heavy item (drill or similar) to cause the dent. It definately wasn't there before. So my question is - do these type of places have insurance for these things? They go into people's house's everyday and possibly could break windows etc so surely they are covered for this sort of thing? It will be difficult to prove but I am damn sure it wasn't there before. Any suggestions? I haven't contacted the place yet but have been feeling sick about it for days! Thanks Jilly Re: The guy who installed my curtains damaged my benchtop! 2Oct 22, 2009 3:06 pm Yes the company should have insurance - I would not delay any further contacting the company asking what they are going to do to rectify the issue (if done on phone, probably best to back up the issues raised with a letter/photos of damage) Re: The guy who installed my curtains damaged my benchtop! 3Oct 22, 2009 3:19 pm Do you have a contract with them? I ask because we recently got flooring installed, they had terms in their contract stating they would not be liable for any damage to wires and pipes under the floor. They actually damaged a wire in the wall and paid for its repair. I am not sure if this was an act of goodwill or if it wasn't exempt in the contract because the contract said damage to stuff under the floor. By rights you should have been on the phone the next day, and I bet the company says as much in trying to avoid responsibility, when you eventually call. Good luck Arfur It's hard to comment as the photos area bit dark ( you might need a new 15 - just got one and wow ) Jokes aside, I can see one member that is cracked.
