Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 20, 2009 11:11 am We are going to rip out our old built in wardrobe in the main bedroom and replace it with new timber veneer doors and new fittings. We have had a quote from the company who did our kitchen but the price for a basic fitout of 2 rails and 5 drawers - nothing fancier than that - plus Victorian ash veneer doors (6) was $6,700. Added to a recent quote we had for some screens to cover the end of our bathroom $4,200 and a quote 6 months ago of $14,300 to replace the curtains in 3 rooms, I am beginning to think that it is impossible to find anyone who is not going to rip you off. I am hoping that someone in Sydney can recommend some firms who will give us a reasonable quote. I know there is another thread on this topic at the moment but all the firms mentioned are not in Sydney. Does anyone have any suggestions? Re: Built in Wardrobe - Recommendations Sydney 2Oct 20, 2009 1:55 pm We got quotes from : BETTA in Taren Point COMPLETE in Taren Point DESIGNER WARDRBOBES in Taren Point IMPRESSIVE in Bankstown. All quoted on the same materials. All were within $400 of each other. In the end, we went with Complete because they used metal drawer sides - their pricing was in the middle. We were happy with their speed & pricing. I just wrote the following in a different thread (for Melbourne wardrobe fitouts) and it's pretty relevant, so I thought I'd paste it in this thread too: This is what I'd like to do with our wardrobes. . . http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz75/jodge/WARD2.jpg Double rail, double rail, drawers with shelves, single low rail with shelves above, single high rail. http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz75/jodge/WARD1.jpg Double rail, double rail, drawers with shelves, double rail. Then. . . to the right of the door, I'd like shelves for shoes (approximately 1m wide by 35cm deep). We're planning on doing it ourselves. I've had a quote on the materials for about $2K, but I think I overengineered it a little, so I'll probably cut back on some thicknesses and save some money. I've found flatpack drawers from Bunnings that look suitable. . . they're only $159 a set. The rest should be pretty easy. Does anyone know of a good (and cheap) wardrobe fitter in Sydney that I could get a quote from? I got my quote for cut-to-size laminated chipboard from LifeTime Industries in Leichhardt. Re: Built in Wardrobe - Recommendations Sydney 4Oct 20, 2009 5:58 pm Thank you Southies. It is good to know that all the places you mentioned are so close. After I posted I remembered that you mentioned having this work done and now you have saved me pming you. Jodge, Thank you for taking the time to give me some ideas. My last wardrobe fitout was nearly 29 years ago and it is a little scarey trying to keep up with modern ideas. My OH did our last wardrobe and if we cannot find a good price he is prepared to do it again. Sorry about the rant regarding prices. Goodness, I'm sounding like my mother who always tells me that it was much cheaper in the past. Re: Built in Wardrobe - Recommendations Sydney 5Oct 20, 2009 6:16 pm I'm with you Neverfinished, some things just cost the earth! (I mean. . . curtains. . . $14K??? What the?) Makes a change that it's someone other than me ranting actually! I've done a little research on the design of the whole thing, they say that most people require very little space for full-length hanging (hence us only having a little session at the back) . . .that is, unless you have stacks of ballroom dresses (not I). I've measured up our clothes and found that Phil's shirts need the most vertical hanging space, so his side of the wardrobe is 400mm higher than my side. (Which matches up with the height that I want the shoe shelves to finish at - handy). We can store stuff that we won't use too much on the top of his side (as it's 2225mm high), and stuff we will use more often on the top of my side (as it's only 1885mm high). Crikey, I'm hoping it's going to be easy enough to put up ourselves. . . not exactly sure on how we're going to mount it yet though! Re: Built in Wardrobe - Recommendations Sydney 6Oct 21, 2009 3:12 pm Hi Neverfinished, I popped into the shower screen place this morning to finalise our choices and he said they do wardrobe fitouts! Thought they might be another one to try. . . WestGlass at Narellan. 4647 3094. Re: Built in Wardrobe - Recommendations Sydney 7Oct 21, 2009 6:09 pm Jodge, thank you for the information. I will have a look when I take my youngest daughter for a driving lesson next week. ( If I make it - every lesson is a new experience) You have certainly put a lot of thought into your wardrobe plans. You have shamed me into planning a bit more than 2 rails and some drawers. Probably a not bad thing to mention particle board should in case anyone else reading this got the two confused. 6 4907 Normally you use builders bog.
