Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 15, 2009 6:13 pm Hi all Well after much soul searching my husband and I have decided to explore the option of extension and renovatation to our house in north Brisbane rather than go for the knock down rebuild option. I have lost an incredible amount of sleep (and hair ) trying to decide which way to jump and have questioned just about everybody I know who has had any experience in the real estate industry. The lure of a brand spanking new, never been lived in house is still there but I don't think this is the right time or property for my dream house. I am seriously impressed with the first builder we contacted to discuss the extension, I made the initial contact with them last week and arranged an appointment for the consultant to come out this morning to look at the house and discuss possibilities with us. I got a phone call yesterday confirming the appointment and the consultant turned up at the agreed time this morning. We had a chat for about an hour or so and he was absolutely lovely and more than willing to answer any questions I threw at him. He also explained things to both of us which was fantastic as I can't stand people who just talk to my husband (who usually leaves the decision making up to me) We decided we wanted to proceed to the design stage and the consultant said he would ask his receptionist to email our details to the drafty they refer to and he would contact us. The consultant had been gone less than 5 minutes when his receptionist (also lovely BTW) called to say she had emailed the drafty and he would be in touch. The Drafty (again lovely! Not usually my luck I can tell you!) called me 3 hours later to arrange an appointment for next week! This is a well established and reputable building firm and I am absolutely thrilled with the level of service so far! I am really excited to see how our meeting goes with the drafty next week!! Maybe this will be the week my numbers come up! Re: L Plates building adventure 2Oct 15, 2009 7:18 pm That's awesome L plates Dealing with nice people makes such a difference doesn't it?? We walked away from our first builder (after having plans modified and everything) because the great guy we had been dealing with retired and over xmas he was replaced with an absolute knob. Good luck with it all! Such a positive start. Re: L Plates building adventure 3Oct 15, 2009 8:52 pm Thanks Felistopher, it certainly does make a difference! I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with your first builder That would have been incredibly frustrating. Our consultant was actually the director of the business, he seems to be really hands on with the projects so here's hoping the great customer service continues if we proceed further with them Maybe this will be the week my numbers come up! Re: L Plates building adventure 4Jun 09, 2010 12:52 pm Hi there, I know this post is a bit old but I was wondering if you decided to go ahead with your project? If you did, which builder did you go with and what your experiences were. We are looking at extending the lowset brick family home and have a quote from a builder which blew us out of the water. We are now considering the owner-builder approach unless another builder can do us a better price. Thanks.
