Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 12, 2009 8:29 am Ok, here is my drama – a month ago my girlfriend and I sat down with a Porter Davis Customer service representative, we went through a number of changes we wanted to make to the Francis 29, one change we wanted to make was to move the side Alfresco about a meter closer to the back yard. We have moved the rumpus wall to make the family room a bit larger and to make the rumpus room a bit smaller and we are extending out the garage and putting in a rear roller door. When we spoke to him (the CS), he said, no problems it can be done. We also want to swap the small window and the bifolds around so the bifolds are still opening out to the Alfresco. On Sunday we went to pay our deposit to lock in a start date, our original CS is on holidays and we got someone else, she has now said it is impossible to do and that we have to leave the alfresco where it is. She even rang the area manager and he said no, however, over the phone she didn’t explain what we want to do properly, she has said, that by moving the alfresco, they have to modify the roof and so they won’t do it, my argument is, they have to modify the roof anyway, what difference does it make an extra meter up. Has anyone changed or moved a Porter Davis alfresco similar to this? And does anyone have any advice on what I might be able to do to try and get this change through. We have spent so much time trying to get the perfect house, this house is as close as we can find and not being able to move the Alfresco has completely destroyed how excited we are about building this house. Will let you know how we go. Are you planning to build with the alfresco option where the alfresco takes the place of the family room? Does the alfresco stick out beyond the normal roofline? Re: Problem with Porter Davis - Moving Alfresco on Francis 29 5Oct 12, 2009 9:54 pm The alfresco sticks out from the family room beyond the normal roofline. we have now been told that we can move it, only 1 mt, but for some reason now they want to change all the windows in the rumpus, i am waiting to find out if this incurs a cost or not. they seem to think that swaping where the window and bifolds are and moving the alfresco along an extra half mt is too hard, i really didn't think i would have this much trouble. I rang Porter Davis head office the other day about what I wanted to do, they asked me to email an example of the change, and Two days later... got an email from Porter Davis Management to say "not a problem". All we have to do now is make sure that it complies with building guidelines. Still have a couple of hurdles to cross with this change and a few others we are/want to make, but this is a huge step in the right direction for our dream. Just goes to show, don't take the first answer you get as the final word. Will keep you posted on how we go Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Problem with Porter Davis - Moving Alfresco on Francis 29 7Oct 14, 2009 12:31 pm Congratulations on your news. We had a few discussions with PD over things we wanted. I think anything slightly unusual gets put in the 'too hard' pile with most of the big builders. We eventually got most things we wanted - you just have to stand your ground if it's really important to you. Don't take anything the sales guys tell you as gospel.
