Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 24, 2009 10:46 am I am living in a rented apartment right now and its time for the quarterly inspections again...Can someone suggest me how to nicely clean the white bathroom tiles?? the grout and black coloured lines between the tiles and shower screen?? Thanks in advance Re: Cleaning tiles and shower screens 2Nov 24, 2009 11:01 am White King Foam Spray, kills all the mould and makes the tiles nice and shiny. Spray it all over your tiles and wipe gently to make sure they all get covered, and leave it for ages....better get a few bottles. Put extra on the grout. Re: Cleaning tiles and shower screens 3Nov 24, 2009 11:06 am Hi Amy, I use 'Easy Off Bam' for the tiles, it is quite good. I just spray it on and leave it, no scrubbing involved. Rinse if off well though as it is a bleach and if you get it everywhere it will bleach anything that comes into contact with it. My beautiful Chocolate coloured towels now have orange spots all over them thank to DH. For the shower screen you will need to buy one of those ( i don't know what they are called) things you use at a servo to clean your windscreen. It has the rubber on one side and the sponge on the other side. Fill a bucket with hot water and dishwashing detergent and scrub the window/glass with the sponge side and then wipe off with the rubber side. Let me know how this works for you. I just moved out of a rental house into our own house 6 weeks ago and i cleaned every window in the house this way including the showers. I got all of my bond back so it must look Ok I hope this helps. I don't know if it would have been okay with cold water but having to wait for the shower to cool somewhat defeats the purpose. If anyone knows where to get a good quality non-rubber one (say polypropylene maybe?) could you please share? (I'm hoping to avoid rubber and to avoid whatever plastic was in the smelly squeegee we bought, which was not rubber. Two separate issues.) Apparently the bleach products don't totally kill mould but they hide it very well, and the strong bathroom cleaners in the long term can damage the grout and even the waterproofing underneath. This is not only from my own online research into the perfect bathroom cleaner but from the comments by various people over the years when we've been seeking to have work done. There's usually a point in the conversation where the question is asked "what cleaner do you use? I hope you don't use..." Edited to clarify two separate issues. Re: Cleaning tiles and shower screens 6Nov 24, 2009 4:03 pm I use AJAX and a scrubbing brush. It doesn't take to long and it comes up really well. So well infact the last house we rented the owner asked me how I managed to get it so clean. Another trick is to buy a White Knight grout pen. Once you have cleaned the grout to the best of your ability go over it with the grout pen! I keep an ENJO bathroom glove in the shower, and go over all the glass screens and tiles once or twice a week, only takes a moment while the conditioner is in. It keeps it clean. Re: Cleaning tiles and shower screens 7Nov 24, 2009 4:08 pm My squeegee came from the supermarket cleaning aisle.... it may not be the tip-top commercial quality kind, but it does a ripper job, much better than others I've had over the years. It doesn't have a brand on it and I can't remember now who the manufacturer was. It's white, has a blue-and-white striped microfibre pad for washing and the squeegee blade appears to be some sort of plastic. I got it at Safeway.... I'll see if I can find it online. Re: Cleaning tiles and shower screens 8Nov 24, 2009 4:32 pm Thanks, interesting. The squeegee we bought was the first I'd seen specially for the bathroom and it seemed like such a good idea. It was just plastic, no washing brush or pad or anything. Unfortunately whatever plastic it was wasn't particularly suitable for the purpose I guess. Re: Cleaning tiles and shower screens 9Nov 24, 2009 5:46 pm I use an ENJO Bath Glove, Combo Wiper (squeege) then dry it with an ENJO Micro Star Cloth, after every shower. DH also wipes it down after his shower of an evening. DSs 19 & 17 not having much luck getting them to do it I used these products for over four years have not any mould in the bathrooms
I am not an ENJO Consultant. The product is really good. Re: Cleaning tiles and shower screens 10Nov 24, 2009 5:54 pm No luck finding it online, so I got the camera out. This it: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And it screws onto a standard broom handle, so perfect for cleaning my bathroom mirrors, which go all the way to the cornice. Also the exterior of the windows. I do the whole shower recess with it - tiles and glass, then wipe over the glass with a glass-cleaning cloth. It comes up all sparkly, every time. I squeegy the tiles, the glass and the floor. Since moving in about 2 months ago, I have only cleaned the shower once, and it didn't really need it anyway! No soap scum (and I use Dove), no mould and no discoloured (orange) grout. When I do clean the shower, I use Jiff lemon cream cleanser and rinse it off well. I used Easy Off Bam once in our old bathroom, where I never had a problem with mould. After using it, I had mould....I'll never use it again! Prevention is better than a cure!! I had a feeling it was an Oates product, but can't find it on their website. Stormy Prevention is better than a cure!! Bit of a Rolls Royce of squeegees there. I was just thinking of a simple blade. And then there's training people to use it... I started the wipe after every shower habit (with a cloth) when we moved in but no-one else did. Re: Cleaning tiles and shower screens 15Nov 25, 2009 6:27 am Like I said....monkeys.... The blade on its own is fine if it's used after every shower. Once you have soapy crap and/or mould though, you have to clean it off with something before you get busy with the squeegee. I hit it with some Selleys Ultra Professional Bathroom Cleaner to remove soap scum. And some foamy bleach stuff (like SuH mentioned) for any yukky bits. My squeegee gets a lot of use, and from memory it was cheap... And yes: Safeway/Woolworths - same thing. Hi everyone.
