Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 10, 2009 9:13 pm our new house got completed in Jan this year (so it's 9months old) we are having problems with some of the downlights. I've tried replacing the globes but they still don;t work. How long do the transformers normally last for downlights and should the builder replace them? Do they have a certain warranty period. it's in the bathroom and laundry which means these lights aren't even used that often. i think each light has a separate transformer. thanks for your help Re: down lights - transformers, how long do they last? 2Oct 11, 2009 9:02 am We had a similar problem when we moved into our house about 8 years ago. Back then we didn't even think of contacting the builder. Our electrician just replaced the faulty transformers and we paid for them. It turns out that there was a poor batch of transformers and these failed quite easily. We have since replaced most of them and have had not problems since, now we only replace the globes and this is only rarely. If you have a problem it's either a manufacturing defect (covered by mandatory 1 year warranty) or a loose connection (try disconnecting and reconnecting any connections on the low voltage side).
