Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 07, 2009 8:01 pm Hi all, Just received permit for verandah build i noted on drawings that i already had exsisting footings for the posts which i had done a while ago they were 400 dia x580 deep my engineer who did some compliance for steel beams wanted them 400 dia x 500 deep now the permit people have also requested they be 200mm into clay. Does the engineers compliance over rule the permits req as now i need to dig a slot out of the side of a footing for them to check how far they are into clay. Are they just being stupid or does the BCA specify what foundation they must be in ?? Thanks Dean Re: verandah/pergola fooitngs 2Oct 08, 2009 12:24 pm You should always take some pics of footings before filling and covering Re: verandah/pergola fooitngs 3Oct 08, 2009 12:37 pm yes i have photos with tape measure showing depth, how do you show clay in a photo? I also have soil report from house perhaps i can use this to show at what depth clay is? Do inspectors usally want to know at what depth clay is for a verandah post, most peolple i speak to mainly talk about the depth being correct not to concerned about clay/rock etc? Re: verandah/pergola fooitngs 5Oct 08, 2009 2:45 pm The documentation by the Engineer would 'normally' nominate a founding depth. i.e. 400 diam*500 deep founded at 100kPa. If a soil test has been undertaken, the depth required to achieve this would be nominated by the testing firm. The Australian Standard allows that the founding depth can be the same as an existng similiar construction type founding depth (if there has been satisfactory previous performance). The Building Surveyors requirement for 200mm into the clay is presumably a 'broad based' request to achieve this bearing pressure. Re: verandah/pergola fooitngs 6Oct 08, 2009 4:43 pm Thanks, I have or should have soil report from house 2 years old plan shows house slab to be 100mm into clay i presume i would be able to use this report? Hi, I'll be starting on my verandah repair soon - replace ledger, rafters, roofing iron, flashing etc. (fascia board already done). My question is about the timber ledger… 0 3323 1 2986 Is there a building permit? RU in Victoria? What is the value of the building contract? 1 6820 |
