We bought a house/land package with McCracken Homes 12 months ago and a clothesline was included in the package. We opted for the wall mounted one. On a windy day in late September the clothesline disconnected from the wall, the elbow piece connecting to the wall bracket broke. As we purchased the clothesline through McCrackens, we rang the maitenance supervisor to enquire about getting it repaired or replaced. They are covered by a 10 year warranty. Initially a McCrackens representative told us they were not responsible for the clothesline as clothes were hanging on it at the time. We did not accept this as a piece of outdoor equipment should be able to withstand a normal windy day and perform the function for which it was intended. After some discussion, supervisor came to our home several days later to look at this and stated he would remove it and return to Hills for replacement the next day.(Fri Oct 1st) The next day no-body came to remove clothesline. We rang about this again on Tuesday Oct 6th and were told somebody would come around that afternoon to remove it. Nobody came to do so. I rang again on Monday morning 19th Oct and was told that the person who was to come around had been off on sick leave ( surely somebody else could have been delegated to do this within 2 weeks?) and that somebody would come around 'straight away' to do so. Nobody came at all that day. We rang again on Tues 20th Oct and were now told that McCrackens were not responsible and to take it up with Hills. No information was given on how to do so. My husband 'googled' Hills and found their phone number, rang them, they very kindly took our word for it as we did not have receipt and they have agreed to send replacement part in the post which my husband can replace. My complaint is this: McCrackens installed the clothesline which was being used for its intended purpose - they are responsible if it proves faulty. If McCrackens were not going to attend to this, why could they not say so in the first place and direct us to Hills service number, instead of giving over 3 weeks of empty promises. We have been without a clothesline for almost a month - most of which was avoidable if we had been advised to ring Hills (or McCrackens had rung Hills on our behalf) on first day. I will add that our experience of after sales service has been quite poor - like all other issues we have had to ring and remind many times before action was taken (or in this case a decision was made not to take action at all) - and we are still waiting to hear about the house frame which is not square along laundry area. from My name, address etc. Re: Clothesline breaks off wall - update: 20/10: not impressed! 26Oct 22, 2009 8:42 am Quote: and we are still waiting to hear about the house frame which is not square along laundry area. I assume Heylen you are speaking of a wall frame being out and the room is not square? Judging by the run around you received over a simple clothesline part (poor service indeed) I'm guessing you will have Buckley's chance of getting anything done about it, especially since its been overlooked by the builder until now. I was in the building industry and nearing the end of my time on tools, applied for a position with a prominent Adelaide builder. Part of my duties would be dealing with irate clients over work standards etc. IF I was successful, I would be tutored in being firmly polite in telling the clients that the standard of work on their home would be matched as close as possible to the display home. Which meant nothing. Thankfully I missed the position. Its only the laundry door and I sort of decided to let it go but seeing as I am writing a letter about their service, I might as well bring this up again too. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj18 ... IM1153.jpg The unit normally clips into a metal plate screwed to the wall, either plate is not flush, or unit not hooked in and could be hanging from the pipes partly, either might… 2 15791 Thanks for your reply! All valid points and I agree with you on many of them. I am in QLD, any recommendations on a construction lawyer would be helpful 3 2637 I couldn't attached the photo for some reason.
