Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 01, 2009 12:30 pm Hi there, We bought a terrace house in May and we are currently "repairing" a couple of things that were picked up at the building inspection. One "issue" was that our attic is linked with the other houses. So we have one big attic for all of us. (I believe 4 houses) I personally think that this is a safety and security issue. I'm mainly worried in case of a fire. But we would also like to "expand" our house and use the attic as a storage room. I was wondering how we need to go about it. Do we need to ask strata, neighbours? Do we need to get someone in? Do we need to have a report? Would strata be responsible for this? Do you need to ask council as you are "expending" your house? It seems that we are the only one to have a man hole. Would this influence? If it is strata controlled then you can't do anything without the Strata co-op's say so. If it is torrens then I would be speaking to either your Council or alternatively your solicitor / conveyancer? Some things are worth waiting for.
