Browse Forums General Discussion Re: We did good !! 21Sep 30, 2009 1:35 pm We went all over the place getting quotes for our 2 split system units in August. HN managed to scribble a price in a brochure booklet they gave to me. GG were useless.. couldnt even get someone in the store to come over and give us a price ! Joyc3Mayn3 were ok... but some snobby sales staff.. as soon as I said I was "just looking" at a dishwasher... she didnt even say anything.. just turned around and walked off! Ended up getting both units from Cliv3 Pet3rs - I dont know why but I thought they only sold beds so we never initially looked in there lol. Walked in.. told the guy verbally the best price we'd had. he disappeared for nearly 20mins.. but finally came back with a price that was cheaper than the best priced we'd had.. but was for the brand new models - instead of the outgoing ones. I did have to put down a deposit that day to lock it in but that was fine. And bonus.. we did it all in time to get the $350 worth of cashbacks on offer.Winner ! 1 x 2.6kw panasonic unit and 1 x 7.4kw - got both for $2,300. Install is costing us 1k for both (cost bit more coz 1 isnt a back to back install) Bring on summer ! Re: We did good !! 23Sep 30, 2009 2:15 pm I enjoy bargaining the salesmen down... I'm actually looking forward to shopping for a new washing machine, dishwasher and tv for my new house next year Although i want to get a new lounge too... viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: We did good !! 25Oct 01, 2009 9:28 am Katie, why not practice your bartering technique over the phone first. Ring a few places (not your closest store) and ask their best price, saying you are "shopping around". Then go into a branch "in person" nearer to you, by which time you'll have the bartering down to a fine art. I've just joined DH up as a member of Union Shopper and notice they have a service where they will shop around to try and beat your best price. Also on there I found access to a few Choice reports that you would normally have to pay for - eg. dishwashers, gas cooktops. A few other "clubs" offer services like this too, I think. Re: We did good !! 26Oct 02, 2009 10:46 am I am getting embarassed walking into Good Guys and Harvey Norman. They all know me now. Shopping around as 1) couldn't decide what brands to purchase and 2) trying to get best deal. Buying all kitchen appliances from kitchen sink to the oven. But now I am at the point where I have to make a purchase this weekend as my cabinet maker needs the final measurements and wants my rangehood. The last quote I got was over a week ago........at the time I told him I would be in the next day ......but didn't. So have to make decision and buy the oven, gas top and rangehood and sink this weekend. The dishwasher and fridge can wait. Re: We did good !! 27Oct 02, 2009 3:06 pm I started haggling last night in person, but will make some phone calls, too! I've decided I'll go for a brand that is accessible from many outlets to help my bargaining position. I already got the 2nd place to knock off a couple of hundred to be competitive with the first place, but it's not enough Will ring another place who stocks it and see if they can beat it! Anyone heard of or used Euro brand appliances? I found a Euro oven I love in a price that doesn't stretch the budget too far, just hoping they're not a piece of poo! Still undecided on my cooktop and rangehood. Gas/electric? Glass/solid canopy rangehood? Argh!! And I still refuse to deal with GG Re: We did good !! 28Oct 02, 2009 7:20 pm katie81 I started haggling last night in person, but will make some phone calls, too! And I still refuse to deal with GG I noticed the Euro appliances the other day - they looked really nice How they work is another thing, as I've never owned that brand & don't know anyone with them either Google them on forums or go to Choice - I think that's the way to go Katie. It's a pain in the bum trying to decide, you just have to bite the bullet I am really happy with all my choices - and rapt with the overall cost. It's a huge weight off my shoulders just to get the appliances out the way so I can resume another headache now over my kitchen, wooden floor colours, tiles..... the list goes on. good luck, Jazz Life is like a lolly, suck it and see Re: We did good !! 30Oct 03, 2009 12:35 am Very true! And you're also more likely to find more bad reviews than good, because how often are people bothered writing reviews unless something has gone horribly wrong? I'll see if I can find an unbiased review of it, if that's possible I'm off tomorrow for some more haggling, it's doing my head in Re: We did good !! 31Oct 03, 2009 12:38 am Jazzie I noticed the Euro appliances the other day - they looked really nice How they work is another thing, as I've never owned that brand & don't know anyone with them either Google them on forums or go to Choice - I think that's the way to go Katie. They've got a nice electric cooktop but just outta my reach $$ wise. Bite the bullet I must! Oven is decided, the rest is not, argh! Good luck with the rest of your decision making, its never ending! Re: We did good !! 32Oct 04, 2009 1:24 am Oven/cooktop/rangehood dilemma sorted Went shopping around again today and ended up settling on a Fisher & Paykel oven and cooktop and a Euro rangehood with halogen lights (F&P don't have glass canopies). Got the 3 for just over $1700, so I was pretty pleased. I'm sure experienced hagglers could have swindled it cheaper, or got the warranty thrown in for free, but for my first time I didn't come out too badly... I think! Love my new cooktop! I got a black glass electric cooktop that has no knobs, it's a touch one where you slide your finger to control the heat Even through my hatred for GG and their slogan being nothing but a load of s!@# (their signs state final price with cash or card!!), I went in there again to see if they sold Euro appliances and get prices, and that is where I saw the F&P. So went across the road and got it cheaper with RetraVision Just cos I'm bored and wanted to see them together myself, here are pics Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: We did good !! 34Oct 04, 2009 10:13 am Well done Katie, you got a great deal Great looking appliances. Do you have much more to get sorted? I sorted kitchen handles, sink and tap on Friday. Only splashback tiles to go.. Yeah.. Leaving that decision until kitchen is installed. Surely it won't be too hard White 200x300 tiles, how hard can that be? I just need the right shade of white that won't make my Laminex Iceberg look too yellow Sounds like Kez should be sorted this weekend too. Re: We did good !! 35Oct 04, 2009 11:06 am Have you thought about buying your kitchen stuff on eBay? Kleenmaid ovens/cooktops/mixer taps etc are selling for ridiculously low prices since they closed in May. The seller I bought from even had sinks and offered a fabulous deal on an underbench 1 3/4 sink with a beaut mixer tap. I ended up with an 800mm ceramic touch control cooktop although I had planned to buy a 600mm but it had sold a few hours before I arrived so the 800mm was offered for the same price. All up it cost $1000 for oven/cooktop/sink/tap so I'm not complaining as I wanted white appliances anyway...stainless steel (imho) looks too commercial and is very hard to clean, just ask the people in display homes/stores/etc. If anyone wants to know the contact details for the bloke I bought from please don't hesitate to email...I don't get any kickbacks and nothing to gain as I've bought my stuff but wouldn't like to post his contact details without his permission either. Bronwyn Re: We did good !! 36Oct 04, 2009 1:22 pm I got a 600 oven and cooktop, and a 700 rangehood (because the 600 rangehoods didn't appeal to me!)
Splashback dilemma still to go for my kitchen! And what kind of flickmixer I want (so many to choose from!) The splashback is going to be the nightmare. Acrylic or tiles? (glass is out unfortunately!) Think I may wait until my kitchen is in, also, before I make up my mind. Can't wait for my kitchen reno to start! Make sure you kitchen people provide photos! Re: We did good !! 37Oct 04, 2009 1:25 pm HappyCamper_au Have you thought about buying your kitchen stuff on eBay? To be honest, I'd feel a bit uneasy about getting my big kitchen purchases online. I like the traditional method cos then you know you're backed up properly with the warranty and such. But sinks and taps I would if I could get a bargain! Congrats on your big savings, sounds like you got an awesome deal! Sounds like a few of us have been productive in making some purchases I also had a successful day today . Bought my oven, rangehood, gastop, dishwasher, sink and tap. Feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders now that the purchases have been made I can stop doing my head in with deciding brands and haggling for prices! Although still have to get the fridge. Now I have to start thinking about splash back and wall paint............. Plasterer was in today and all the holes are covered! Feel like progress was made this weekend. Still have floorboards, paint and cabinets, splashback ...... then I will have a kitchen! Just have to make the final decision as to what order to get the tradesmen in pro's and con's of each. Re: We did good !! 40Oct 04, 2009 10:54 pm Congrats, Kez! Feels good doesn't it! What brands did you buy and did you get a good deal? I've just arranged a plumber who has given me the total cost of the job to come and do it in two parts. One part prior to kitchen and laundry going in, and the other part to connect stuff once kitchen/laundry are in. Now I need to find an electrician before the kitchen goes in! No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11584 9 24793 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7284 |
