Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 27, 2009 12:55 pm Yesterday I got the 'lowest' prices for all my appliances from Good Guys and then went to Harvey Norman This morning I took my DH and went back to same salesmen at both stores - after visiting GG first with HN's prices, they again lowered the total invoice which we then took back to HN across the road who either matched & with some, even lowered the price on a couple of items yet again - plus their promotion of a cutlery set thrown in. We are rapt - Electrolux 520L fridge, Electrolux 8kg front loader (extra warranty), Bosch dishwasher, Blanco 75cm oven, cooktop & rangehood. We beat their original 'best' price by $780 so all these appliances well under $7K Done & dusted, no more shopping around and we are really happy with our price & decisions. It hasn't been too time consuming I guess, but it's certainly paid off to barter between these two major stores. Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss! Re: We did good !! 3Sep 27, 2009 1:34 pm Definately well done! If you don't ask, you don't get. Have you got the kitchen sink yet? Harvery Norman sell sinks too and they were $100 cheaper on the model I want than the cheapest price I can get from a plumbing shop. That was even without pressing for a discount. Going in tommorow to ask their BEST price. Re: We did good !! 5Sep 27, 2009 7:50 pm kazza Definately well done! If you don't ask, you don't get. Have you got the kitchen sink yet? Yep, got the kitchen sink Kazza and all our basins & taps are stored Just gotta get the house finished now Good luck with your bargain hunting - there's some great sales out now. We also get a $250 cutlery set for spending over $2500, so can't complain with my day's shopping Jazz Life is like a lolly, suck it and see Re: We did good !! 6Sep 27, 2009 9:40 pm Ah yes, love bargains! I picked some up myself today. I bought a 900mm Miele stovetop, a 600mm Miele oven and dishwasher all for just over $3K!! I bought them from Harvey Norman and Retra Vision. Miele don't do special discounts, but these were older models so they were heavily discounted, woohoo!! Re: We did good !! 7Sep 27, 2009 10:52 pm Congrats!! I HATE dealing with salesman with a passion! I still need to buy an oven/cooktop/rangehood and front loader for the laundry, and Good Guys give pathetic "best" prices Apparently the more you buy has no effect on the discount you get... bull****!!!! I need to hire a man to come shopping with me, I'd sure as heck get a better deal because I have no idea how to haggle! Irritates me that they walk all over the females who really don't know how to haggle. And the worst part is, the brand I am looking at buying is exclusive to GG, so I can't even take the quote to another store and get them to beat it! Anyone got any tips for getting the real BEST price? Re: We did good !! 8Sep 27, 2009 10:55 pm good on ya, it can't hurt to ask if they can do better, it's up to them! A thankful person is a happy person. Being that GG are complete ripoff merchants (in my experience), it might be cheaper to fly one of them over to Perth to help me out The brand is an el cheapo, Lofra. I liked the look of them, they had 3 years warranty I believe instead of 2, and the price was good. But I'm thinking about shopping around for something a bit more expensive now, which should help me in playing one store off another! Decisions, decisions...!! Re: We did good !! 12Sep 28, 2009 12:20 am Katie81, I hadn't heard of Lofra before so I googled them. Their links don't seem to be working. Maybe it's just me The google search also turns up another recipe forum talking about them which may be an interesting read for you. Re: We did good !! 14Sep 28, 2009 8:03 am katie81 Congrats!! Anyone got any tips for getting the real BEST price? Katie, I can only tell you what I did. Get two written quotes then go between those two stores & barter. We actually showed both salesmen the quotes from other stores & they got on their trusty computers quick sticks & hastily went to work trying to beat each others figures. We then went back to the other one & he came up with the final prices I reckon they all suck but we couldn't have been happier in the final costing By the way, happy to send my DH over to help you out - will 6 weeks do Jazz Life is like a lolly, suck it and see Re: We did good !! 15Sep 28, 2009 9:03 am As soon as I told Clive Anthonys I needed a house full of appliances they put me on a commercial account - the same prices they give to tradesmen. I shopped around alot and they beat everyones prices by thousands. Then I put down a fully refundable deposit to lock in the prices and can pay the rest off when I'm ready - didnt even need to pay cash. The best part is I can still look around and if anyone happens to come in better with one or all of the items they will adjust their price to suit, and I can add or remove items at any time. Cant ask for anything better than that! Re: We did good !! 16Sep 28, 2009 9:36 am We have been looking around for TV's but HN would not give us a written quote, he wrote down (on a plain piece of paper) all the components we need and in one column the RRP and another the prices he would give us, but he wouldn't even give us this piece of paper! Re: We did good !! 17Sep 28, 2009 10:11 am EKT - what a great deal. That would also mean you are not eating into your warranty period as well or having to store them until they are needed. Bravo to you vid - I also encounter salesmen who won't write a price down. They don't want you to go back and forth between shops. I take my own notebook and write down what they price they say anyway, along with the name of the person who gave me that price. They also usually ask what is the best price I have so far to which I reply "you tell me yours and I'll let you know if you are anywhere near it" or "this is the first place I have been, so make it a good one so that I will come back". Depends on who you get on the day also. Possibly shopping near the end of the month would help, if they want to boost their sales figures. The cost and features of the extended warranty at various shops can also be a deciding factor for me as well. One HN store wouldn't give us a written quote, just on a scrap of paper like you but another suburb where we finally got our goods originally gave us the quote & that's how we bartered between them & Good Guys. Maybe they all have different policies Jazzie Life is like a lolly, suck it and see Re: We did good !! 20Sep 28, 2009 5:22 pm katie81 Jazzie By the way, happy to send my DH over to help you out - will 6 weeks do Jazz If he's handy too, sure I'll take him off your hands for a while, I'm trying to renovate here and could use someone handy! I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11576 9 24787 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7271 |
