Browse Forums General Discussion Re: We did good !! 41Oct 04, 2009 11:20 pm Hey Katie Ended up going for Westinghouse for my cooking stuff. Mum said she has had it in every kitchen she has ever had. I have never taken note of the ovens I have had in previous places (which were all rentals so didn't give much thought). I ended up upgrading to the next oven "up" in the 'functions' as I wanted both conventional and fan forces (didn't realise that some only do fan forced). I ended up going electric oven with gas top - this was a decision and a half. Dishwasher OMG what a decision that was. Didn't want to go one that was made in Turkey or Korea etc. Was looking at Bosch for ages but ended up going Westinghouse again! Again got the next level up for more functions. But still wasn't as much as the Bosch I was looking at. Think I got a good deal. I had been to GG originally and got them down to one price. Then went to HN who got it down again. Then back to GG who the first salesman said he couldn't beat it but another one came up and worked his way with the computers (sometimes you wonder how much of this is an act) and managed to beat it. So I can only hope I got a good deal. In the end at least I have it now and don't have to waste more time searching. If you read the reviews they all have bad reviews so really it is pot luck what you get. Oh Plumbers electicians painters plasteres - it all gets too much doesn't it. And the order to do everything? Like floorboards, walls then kitchen. Or kitchen, floor then paint. Or ..............AAAGH Any way I better get to bed. Daylight savings has stolen an hour of my sleeping time. Work tomorrow. Your purchases look great!!! Yipee for us Re: We did good !! 42Oct 06, 2009 1:00 am Kez If you read the reviews they all have bad reviews so really it is pot luck what you get. Oh Plumbers electicians painters plasteres - it all gets too much doesn't it. And the order to do everything? Like floorboards, walls then kitchen. Or kitchen, floor then paint. Or ..............AAAGH Well that's just it. Mention a brand to people, and at least one person has had a bad experience with it themselves. Just the way it is! I've bought an LG fridge and Fisher & Paykel oven/cooktop and my sister has had bad experiences with both brands. Can't win! So you just go with whatever you like I say! As for the order, no real idea! But my walls have been painted after the old kitchen was ripped out, then the plumber and electrician is coming in, then my wood flooring guy to sand/polish the boards, then the kitchen goes in. I would have done the floorboards last, but I need to move in before the kitchen is done so I need the floors done before my furniture goes in! I will just have to lay old blankets and stuff on the floor so the cabinet maker doesn't scratch my new floor up when he does his thing!! Re: We did good !! 43Oct 06, 2009 8:19 am Yeah I got Westinghouse and I found on a product review website some bad reviews but I figure they have been around for years so cant be that bad? I think ideally maybe kitchen should be installed first but I don't know. Pros and cons of what whatever order I choose. I also want to move in as soon as possible and my floor man will be available before my kitchen is ready. My kitchen I think will take another three to four weeks and I don't want to have everything on standby waiting for that then do the floors and paint. I have asked a few people their opinions and I am getting different responses but the majority say kitchen installation, then paint then floors. I was planning on doing the complete opposite - floors then paint then kitchen. I thought the kitchen should sit on top of the polished boards. (Even though I guess you don't see them). AAAGH It kept me awake last night thinking about it. I have a friend coming to stay for about a month in late November and I really wanted a few weeks in the place on my own before she arrived but might not turn out that way. Re: We did good !! 44Oct 06, 2009 10:15 am Well I just spoke to my floor man and my cabinet man. My cabinet man said to put the kitchen in first as they could drop something on the floors etc. My floor board man said to do the floors first he said "Why put kitchen in before doing the floors?".........................AAAGGH I am going to upset one of my tradies no matter what I do. Re: We did good !! 45Oct 06, 2009 2:26 pm Kez I have a friend coming to stay for about a month in late November and I really wanted a few weeks in the place on my own before she arrived but might not turn out that way. Wow you sound like me! I have a friend coming to stay (just for a few days, though) end of November and that is why I need to be moved in by then! I'd rather do my floors after kitchen is in so kitchen tradie doesn't scratch them, but I have no choice It looks like the floors were done after the old kitchen last time (50 years ago!) because when the kitchen got ripped out, the wood under the cupboards has no polish on them like the rest of the floors. When I get mine done, they will get redone as well then new kitchen over the top. But unless the kitchen gets ripped out in another 50 years time, you're not going to see what's under the cupboards! No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11569 9 24778 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7259 |
