Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 26, 2009 4:04 pm Hey guys, I am building a small 2 bedroom home in Melbourne... I am looking to qualify for the 32k grant going owner builder and am 30% through completion of the slab (started today). However due to the recent rain the slab might be finished on Thursday meaning that I will miss out on the 32k FHOG boost which expires the day before on the 30th of September. Just wanting to know as an owner builder.... how I can increase my chances of sneaking in on the 30th of September.... I am really starting to panic. What will the SRO need me to submit exactly?? And are there any ways around this, feel free to PM me if necessary. Would appropriate an thoughts or suggestions. JB Re: Owner builder race against time for the FHOG boost 3Sep 28, 2009 6:24 pm As JB said, get the invoice registered at prior to the 30th, if possible. I am going through the same thing; trying to sneak in prior to the next 2 days BUT you're I think that you will be safe as in the grant paperwork it says, "state date when foundations/slab works commenced" It doesnt say when it finished. Either way make the paperwork write before 30th and you will be all good! Re: Owner builder race against time for the FHOG boost 4Sep 28, 2009 7:47 pm No need guys, the SRO states the following: http://www.sro.vic.gov.au/sro/SROnav.ns ... 0A442?open Commencement date of the eligible transaction Date of contract to purchase or build a home, or for an owner builder it is the date the foundations commenced being laid. Just sucks that we don't get our money back until certificate of occupancy while people doing contracts get it back almost instantly! That stamp duty paid over 12mths ago could really have come in handy by now Re: Owner builder race against time for the FHOG boost 5Oct 18, 2009 5:38 pm thanks for your feedback guys... the slab was started a week before october so i should be right... i agree dave... westpac normally dish out the grant immediately to non owner builders but ah well... im not complaining Re: Owner builder race against time for the FHOG boost 6Oct 18, 2009 7:54 pm so once u start building as owner builder; when would be a good time to submit the FHOG paperwork? At the end when you move in and have the certifcate? I guess its pointless submitting it now and waiting yeh? They actually state for OB'ers not to even think about submitting any paper work until you have the cert. I guess they get lots of people trying anyway hehe Re: Owner builder race against time for the FHOG boost 8Oct 20, 2009 3:15 pm Hahahah I thought so! As long as we don't miss out coz we handed it in later, I dnt mind waiting. Just collect receipts etc and cert of occupancy and apply within 12 months; I suppose! JB DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair I'm in WA and our sandy soils make drainage a bit easier but this is what I'd be doing. Dig down to your footings and let the wall dry out.
