I have finished building my home but have been attempting to have the builder come back and rectify defects and omissions. He has fixed a few, agreed to fixing a few more, but has disagreed to most of them. The defects list are both things that I have found, and found by a building inspector we hired. I would like to know what to expect should I follow the path of Fair Trading. Would I be wasting my time - are they are "toothless tigers" that I've heard of? Should I go through the mediation part, or straight to the tribunial? Should I get the building inspector onboard as a consultant and have him liase with the builder (very costly option). I'd love to hear your experience and advice as I'm at a loss what should be my next step.
