The rougher the texture of the render the more the glue will bite and probably cause damage. If it was a DIY job, they may have used liquid nails and a corking gun. (if so you may be able to scrape it off with a scraper and have minimal damage) I suggest you prepare for the worst, and hope to be pleasantly surprised.
