Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 14, 2009 8:26 pm Hi all, I've just started renovating a house in Birkdale, by the bayside south of Brisbane. The most intriguing thing has been that it seems nearly 40% of the street are doing it too - every Saturday is awash with the sound of hammering and sanding and chainsawing. If it's not being renovated, it's being demolished and rebuilt. I'm wondering if anyone else is living in a similar "reno cluster" and what they think contributes to it? I guess we're in a great location, with water views and the prices of houses are pretty cheap - but is there something else that creates a whole whirlwind of activity on any given street? Is it just keeping up with the neighbors? J. Thomas Street - one great big reno! Re: Renovation clusters? 2Sep 14, 2009 9:05 pm We're in a reno cluster too. Like you we're in a good location but full of period homes that are heritage protected. Add onto that the affluent nature of our neighbours and it's reno city here! I'm sure part of it is keeping up with the Jones's but the majority of it would have to be people wanting all the advantages of modern conveniences whilst being close to the city and water. I think it's great - I like house proud people!
