Happy at Home Re: Antenna 23Nov 15, 2009 11:13 pm still on topic an dI donpt mean to cause any alarm with people. This thread is pertinent to this forum as people advise all the time to install their own antennas. Please be careful and take all the proper precautions for safety if installing your own antenna on the roof of your home or working at height. It cant be stressed enough that you hire a professional to do the installation for you. ****** http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/11/06/2735945.htm?section=justin Quote: A man has died after falling from a roof while trying to install a television antenna in Melbourne's north. Worksafe spokesman Michael Birt says the man in his 40s was trying to fit the antenna at a house in Carrick Drive at Gladstone Park. Mr Birt says people need to protect themselves from falls. "Worksafe's investigating this incident and we'll need to find out exactly what's happened and what the circumstances were," he said. "But what we need the community to do is if they're working at height, whether they're on a building site or doing some work around somebody's house, they need to have fall protection." saw this on whirlpool thought it wouldnt hurt having it on here wasn't sure where to put it tho.. No point almost killing yourself to get it up there if you get a bad signal. Not sure what you mean by 'tuned', Adrian. The frequency range that an antenna covers is pre-determined by the manufacturer by designing the physical dimensions of the antenna and its elements. A TV antenna is directional, and needs to be turned to point correctly. This can be done by having someone watch the television while you change the direction. The only time I'd employ an antenna installer is if I was in a fringe area and a choice had to be made between broadcast sites which might have different polarisation and broadcast the channels on different frequencies. Then it would be worthwhile having someone with a signal strength meter. Otherwise, the difference in price between higher gain antennas and antennas that might be used in higher signal strength areas is not all that large, and you can get a fairly good idea of what you need by looking at antennas near you that work well for the occupants. I didn't want to start pulling too hard on it if there was some other way it was attached, but yep, it was just the paint sticking it… 2 3175 |
