Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 03, 2009 8:17 pm We are due to move intoour house next week and need to get an antenna. I have spoken to few companies today and they all seem to be about the same price but is there anyone that you recommend? Is there a particular company or brand I should go with over another? Re: Antenna 2Sep 03, 2009 9:21 pm Have you considered DIY? Antennas are cheap enough and the mounting equipment isn't expensive either. If it is a simple job of bolting it to the fascia, save yourself a few bucks and DIY. Then there is more money left over for beer afterwards! Of course, if it is a 2 story house, then be a wus and let the antenna man take the risk! Re: Antenna 3Sep 03, 2009 10:30 pm My DH went to a shop around the corner from his work, bought one for $99 and installed it in our roof space. Perfect picture in all 6 TV points Happy at Home Re: Antenna 4Sep 03, 2009 11:48 pm we too did what HTB did we bought a hills one for $99 and DP and his mate put it in the roof cavity before the plaster went it purely for ease but its not oo late now.... and I hate the look of an antenna on the roof but thats just me being picky! 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! Cos I have one already but I think it's missing a bracket for the post, but if it will work just sitting in the roof then that's awesome cos I can get a friend to wire it up for me 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Do you use a different type of antenna for in inside the roof? if not go for it. Re: Antenna 7Sep 04, 2009 9:10 am Lisanne- mum and dads old place in Epping had it in the roof under the double story and it was perfect, neighbours next door (at our new place) don't even have an antenna and have pretty good signal. Our mate (sparky) used a Db meter and said it had a good Db reading in the roof, so time will tell. And it is the same sort of antenna in the roof! 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! It was still a perfect picture when I got cable TV and took it down to mount to the garage for a TV out there. As others have said, check what others have done in the area and you might save yourself a heap of money that you can spend on something else. Re: Antenna 9Sep 04, 2009 12:09 pm That would be awesome if it works like that Now, I think the roof is high enough near the manhole to get it in there 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' He just pointed it towards the Kinglake Ranges and the picture is perfect in every TV point. We were under the impression that we weren't allowed antenna's on our roof that's why we did it that way. Our neighbour a few doors down got quotes for $500-$600 to have one installed Happy at Home Re: Antenna 12Sep 04, 2009 11:41 pm We got Jim's Antenna's to do ours, he came out with a gadget of some sort that tells him the best place to put it to get the best reception. When we move out of the rental he is going to come and take it down and put it up on the new house for us. I might ask him about putting it in the roof cavity... In our current rental we are just using a "curly" antenna with digital tuner and the reception is very good on all stations except for Channel 7, which is very erratic, you get missing words and pixelated bits here and there, does anyone know if there is a way to fix this please? Is it just a matter of connecting the wire to the right point(s) on the antenna?? Surely I can do that myself if I am brave enough to get into my roof? It is important to understand a little, though, as impedance mismatches can occur if the incorrect cable or fittings are chosen. However, the government, in their great wisdom, has decided, as I understand it, that you must hold the appropriate bits of paper to put wiring of any kind in your house, apart from attaching equipment to extant outlets. This includes fibre optic cable that really can't cause too much of a problem unless you are very, very silly in what you do. Go figure. RG6 quad shield and you can't really go wrong electrical, telephone/ data cabling yes off limits for non trained peopel to install... unless under direct supervision of a licensed/ ticketed person. TV, speaker, HMDI and such perfectly ok for you to install as long as your SS/ building company are fine with that.. which unfortunely they tend to want you to pay for it..... with exemptions of course... ie you have an awesome SS who will let you and mate come on site and install any extra cabling before the gyprock goes up. very rare they prefer the pros to doign all work. as for fibre preterminated leads, I really don't see a problem .. how ever unless you have the right training terminating fibre has a lot of OH & S stuff to deal with. and personally i would never install an unarmoured fibre cable into a house unless it was in a conduit as they are very easy to break/ damage beyond repair and there goes alot of time/ effort puting the cable in the first place... I didn't want to start pulling too hard on it if there was some other way it was attached, but yep, it was just the paint sticking it… 2 3170 |
