Weatherboard over existing brick veneer?

This is probably a very silly question but is it possible to install weatherboard over the entire surface of an existing brick veneer house? The house is colonial in style but the brick is very dated and the whole house would be much more attractive if it appeared to be weatherboard. I have no building knowledge (clearly!) so have no idea what this might involve.

You would need to batten the bricks to fix the weatherboard to which could create dramas around windows etc.
Someone may be able to answer whether the brickwork would hold up to the added weight attached to the outside.

My bro-in-law did a similar thing when he put a first floor addition on though he removed all the bricks before cladding
