I think its a terrific store but you just need to get use to it. When ever we go it is always packed but we try to advoid weekends now as the car parking can be a nightmare. Our kids love going there for all the free samples of food I must live a very uneventful life if they find an outing to Cosco entertaining Mrs B Re: Costco 44Jul 30, 2010 11:18 pm Mrs B I am a big fan of Cosco for these reasons.... Close to where I live and easy access to get to. I have bought cleaning products/toilet paper in bulk and for the first time in 20 years, have not run out. There is something quite satisfying when doing the laundry to see my big bucket of washing powder. I have always got food in my freezer and pantry so therefore do not visit the supermarket and waste another $40 or so on 'stuff' We have tried new products that we normally wouldnt have bought. this is what we normally stock up on Milk Yoghurts tampons toilet paper bin bags zip bags for lunches cakes we cut up and freeze for school lunches Frozen fish frozen chips shampoo nan bread frozen chips baby capsicums...these are just beautiful! asparagus baby tomatoes fresh pastas etc The meat is not good value as we go to a great wholesaler in Brooklyn for meat. I have also bought these sport shorts for the boys/men a few months ago, but since then they have all been sold out. We also tried the big mud cake when we had all the boys over for a party and it was great...desert served for 20 people for only $20, good value I think. You really need to go a few times before you fill the trolley. It takes a while to get use to the bulk and products on offer. Its great for large families or for people who entertain a lot. Mrs B Mrs B, Are you referring to Tasman meats??? Re: Costco 45Jul 31, 2010 4:11 am Hi Flagstaff yes thats the name, Tasman Meats. Mr B loves that meat wholesaler but boy is it cold when you walk in ' Actually, I change my mind about Cosco Meat, we do buy it now. Mr B always get the 'baby back ribs' which are just the best as well as the bulk mince meat and tray of thick chunky steaks. Lamb cutlets are still cheaper at the Footscray market though Can you tell we are both shopaholics Mrs B Re: Costco 46Jul 31, 2010 7:44 am My parents have been buying the meet regularly from Costco for a couple of months - it's nothing short of fabulous. Might not be the cheapest out there but we've never had a bad piece and the pork has been especially good from there. Which is more than I can say for the local butchers and supermarkets. Re: Costco 47Jul 31, 2010 8:55 am If you want to go check it out, as that's all we wanted to do you can actually just get a guest pass so you don't have to pay. We just wandered around for a look and some bulk goods are not bad pricing, but for us $60 to join not sure we'd be saving much in the short term. We'll share a pass with some friends I think when it's time to buy nappies Re: Costco 48Jul 31, 2010 8:43 pm Mrs B Hi Flagstaff yes thats the name, Tasman Meats. We will be buying most of our food in bulk when we finally move out! I always drive past Tasman Meats but have never been inside. Now I know I must wear many layers of clothing before I go in! Lamb Cutlets = Footscray Market. Check! Re: Costco 49Aug 02, 2010 9:19 pm My membership is up for renewal 31 August 2010 Don't think I will continue I can get cheaper things in the real world without going on a blind date with costco. I m not a bulk buyer of toilet rolls nor soft drinks. Definitely, costco is for the busy person with large family living out there in the far flung suburbs which does not fit my mould. Aldi is far more competitive and there is a myriad of smaller supers very competitive these days which need to be fed with small cash flows. Costco is definitely a dinosaur on its way to extinction Re: Costco 50Aug 02, 2010 10:18 pm grinder Aldi is far more competitive and there is a myriad of smaller supers very competitive these days which need to be fed with small cash flows. Costco is definitely a dinosaur on its way to extinction I very much doubt it is on its way to extinction.. but costco is not going to suit everyone.. for me personally I hate aldi.. you can't do a complete shop there as they have no brand names.. it would be like going into coles or safeway and only being able to buy homebrand.. I don't mind a mixture of brand name and homebrand but can't stand it if that is my only choice. Good luck with your future purchases Re: Costco 52Aug 03, 2010 9:29 am I dont think WBA is disputing homebrand or similar products, he is saying that Costco doesnt only offer a generic brand, they offer "name" brands also. I completely agree with him - there are certain products that I buy in which I would only ever buy a particular brand i.e Omo, Pine O Clean, Glen 20 etc so shopping at a local Aldi would also mean going to a supermarket such as Safeway or Coles to get these things as well. I dont have time for that, and WBA ha an extra bub than me so Im sure he and his wife definately dont have time! Going to one place which has both generic and "name" brand items as a lower cost is worth it for some of us. On our last visit we took our MIL and like you, she didnt think it was worth it. She'd much prefer to shop at Aldi. Difference between us was that we bought bulk, whereas she would walk down an aisle and only want one of something. So it definately wasnt worth her going. Re: Costco 54Aug 03, 2010 5:51 pm We have an aldi in walking distance and never shop there...personally cant stand it for many reasons. All personal choice I suppose and btw, we often buy the kirkland brand at Cosco. Mrs B Re: Costco 55Aug 07, 2010 12:33 am Has anyone brought the other items they have like electrical and clothing??/ I am hanging out for the Sydney Costco to open its doors as when I was growing up we had a Campbells cash and carry account and always brought in bulk I went outside once. Re: Costco 58Aug 07, 2010 8:59 am I went there last night and priced some tyres... pretty good price for a set of bridgestone for my territory $836 for the set... Re: Costco 59Aug 08, 2010 1:57 am Yeah tyre shops around the area in sydney may have to sharpen up I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! Re: Costco 60Aug 08, 2010 10:01 am I'm going to head there this week, they've now introduced coupons which are great value. When we originally signed up we got the finish dishwasher tablets 2X56 packs for $21(which is a bargain), they're now offering a coupon of $8 off which is massive compared to the competition. OMO 2X5kg is $10 off Maybe not worth it for everybody, but they're great specials for people who use those items daily. Costco, definitely worth it My building thread : viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36059 Paid initial deposit 24/7/10 Tender appointment 20/8/2010 Flooring and tile appointment 25/9/10 Colour and Electrical appointment 13/9/10 December site start delayed Site start (YAY!) 17/1/11 Slab pour 1/2/2011 |
