I am just toying with the idea of acquiring a transportable home - a brand new one that is. I currently live in Perth, and thinking of moving to Brisbane, but the housing costs over in QLD are very high compared to Perth. I am wondering how much (ball park figure) a transportable home would cost to make? 4 x bedrooms 1 large bathroom/toilet 1 games/rumpus room 1 large kitchn - definately a must 1 small study room 1 large family room Am I asking too much? I have no idea what are the limitations on this style of housing. I thought perhaps these would be cheaper than building a brick and tile home. Can these be set on a normal block of land? or do they need to be put in a lifestyle type complex? Or would I be better off building a brick and tile home? Thanks! praet Re: transportable homes - expensive exercise? 2Aug 04, 2005 2:17 pm Hi praet,
I recently purchased a transportable home and had it delivered to my property. Apart from bank issues, everything else went quite smoothly. They gave me a fixed price contract and thats what I paid. My house has 4 bedrooms, 1 main bathroom, 1 sepaarate toilet and shower, kitchen etc. Limitations would be the style of the house. I've found that most transportable homes are quite boxy looking. We tried to overcome this by putting a huge verandah in the front so now it looks "cottage-y". Practically everything was included, the carpet, lino, tiles, etc. My parents moved straight in. I found it to be very affoordable as I didn't have a large budget to spend on my house.and I was getting sick of those project home people only being interested in selling McMansions. It is cheaper than building a brick and tile house (far cheaper) and they can usually put it on any block. I've got mine on 25 acres. I'm really happy with mine so I would definately recommend it. Especially if you want hassle free building!! Feel free to ask me any other questions. Transportable homes 3Sep 06, 2005 11:35 am Hi!
I am also looking at this option and have been in contact with a number of manufacturing companies throughout NSW. Would you mind revealing who you bought yours from? Given that you had a good experience I would be very grateful to know as we feel a bit like we're stumbling around in the dark right now - they look good but beneath the surface, who knows??
