Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 31, 2009 2:02 pm I am wondering if anyone is building a small home? We have restricted size due to the classification of the building being basically a granny flat. Just wondering if people wanted to share pictures of how they utilised the minimal space to their advantage & just general costs etc? "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. Sorry no photos at this stage, a vacant block of land is a vacant block of land!! The vendors gave me two sets of plans and I'm hoping to build their most recent selection, although I am not compelled to but with a couple of very minor changes the house will suit perfectly. Have you considered a combined bathroom/laundry? Even though they have children this was their choice for the main bathroom and while at first I wasn't so sure, the more I've thought about it the more I like it as it will also have a door to the outside so will get lots of sun too! One side of the house faces north and almost all of this wall is glass. Can't wait to start!! Bronwyn Re: Anyone building a small home or granny flat? 3Sep 01, 2009 8:07 am Thanks for your reply Bronwyn. Our home is going on property with an existing home there already, so will continue to use the main house laundry, however we do plan to eventually have an external laundry, near the small houe with it's own water tank. We had considered the washing machine etc going into the bathroom. It really does make sense in majority of situation. Basically in our plan we are using the laundry nook as a linen/storage closet. It's going to be big but we are have 2 bedrooms and don't want to fill them full of boxes & storage containers. "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. First and foremost is Little House on a Small Planet. It's easy, hugely inspiring and thought provoking reading. I borrowed from Melbourne City Library (if you live in Victoria you can join, or if you don't, and can't get it elsewhere, you could always go for an inter-library loan). http://www.littlehouseonasmallplanet.com/ Also try Sarah Susanka's books - her houses aren't seriously small, more like US small, but still some useful tips. Good luck e. Re: Anyone building a small home or granny flat? 5Sep 04, 2009 8:54 pm Ohhh, and how could I have forgotten this link: http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/ Seriously tiny houses.
