We are intending to seal the door with varnish, we just wondered how we could deal with this mark best? JB Re: How do I remove or disguise water staining on a timber door? 4Aug 31, 2009 12:11 pm You don't need much prolly less than 100ml... put a small amount in an atomiser and give it a little spray. Re: How do I remove or disguise water staining on a timber door? 5Sep 04, 2009 10:41 pm use a product called revivor from a dulux trade outlet, very cheap mixed down with water. It containts oxalic acid which is used to prepare timber products for staining/varnishing. This is the professional way used by painters. I do not know what effect sodium hypo would have on the timber/coatings but painters use oxalic acid. I appreciate the other suggestion about sodium too I'm just not brave enough to use it, I think if Dulux recommend a product then they have some responsibility to ensure it works! JB Re: How do I remove or disguise water staining on a timber door? 7Sep 23, 2009 12:52 pm Place a tea towel over the mark and use a hot iron without water and place it on the tea towel until the mark is gone, this should suck the moisture out. Not sure if this will work with your front door, but it works with those water marks you get on wooden coffee tables.
