Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 08, 2009 6:04 pm We're having some issues with paint colour. We have a faux Federation house and none of the external features you see are original. We want to modernise the colour scheme and on the rear extension we have a Colorbond Shale Grey roof. We got a sample pot and painted a patch of wall, with the trim colour being Taubmans Gravel. We think it's too contrasty - that the Gravel is too dark. We're happy with the Shale Grey. What colour would you recommend for the trim? Do you think it needs to be a lighter mid-tone grey without the blue in it? The timber windows will be white. I'm hoping people here will have experience picking a darker grey to go beautifully with the popular Shale Grey. We want a serene look, not a depressing one! Thanks so much! Re: I need external paint colour help! 2Nov 09, 2009 10:59 pm You should have a look at the colourbond selection of colours, Colourbond use a standard palette of colours for all there products they manufacture i.e water tanks, colourbond roofs etc, shale grey is a colour from that particuler palette, the colours are designed to sit well with each other and are currently used by most builders around the place. If you wanted a colour selection outside colourbond colours i'd use Dulux Lexicon where the blue is as the main colour scheme, respray the current roof there the shale grey to match the rear and do a feature colour of Dulux Flooded Gum (which is a gray colour). I'll post a link to a house i painted with that colour scheme, i think the use of whites and grays would modernise the home while keeping the tactful colonial styleing. http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/6462/k ... iornot.jpg Re: I need external paint colour help! 3Nov 09, 2009 11:10 pm Thanks so much - that does look beautiful and fresh! I got a sample pot of Dulux Stone Grey today. I liked it - before making any decisions will compare your colour suggestions. Thanks for the help! Thank you @.
