Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Colorbond v's tile 41Aug 29, 2009 11:55 am My builder only offered the tiles as standard (colourbond was a pricey upgrade), so i've gone with the tiles. Although i do prefer colourbond as i love the sound of rain! But it can get noisey with creaking etc. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Colorbond v's tile 42Aug 29, 2009 10:21 pm Colourbond pro: the sound of rain on the metal roof. Colourbond con: The powdery residue that builds up from it oxidising. Especially white which stands out prouder than a honeymooners preverbial. The tiles will look nice and formal. Re: Colorbond v's tile 43Aug 30, 2009 8:20 am Daryl I have yet to see tiles flying through the air under extreme wind conditions but i have seen many bits of tin flying around. Sorry had to put that in, just me. Daryl Handling extreme weather conditions, especially here in Qld, is one of the primary advantages of colourbond over tile. In the big storms in brissie late last year which included extreme wind and hail, it was the tile roofs with big tarps over them for months after. Not only was all the colourbond still firmly fixed to the roofs, but there were no holes in them from hail either. The unfortunates with tile roofs had tiles blown away, shattered by hail and subsequent water damage to their houses. I think if you asked those home owners (and the insurance companies) which type of new roof they would prefer, there wouldn't be many opting for tile. Re: Colorbond v's tile 44Aug 30, 2009 6:43 pm Colorbond must have an external TV ariel Tile can have internal. External TV areil will attract plenty of birds which will poo on your roof and make it look $hit..... Sorry, could not help the pun Also wind can interfere with reception. Re: Colorbond v's tile 45Aug 30, 2009 7:27 pm We will have tiles. Colourbond is an upgrade with our builder. I don't mind I quite like tiles. I do like the look of colourbond rooves though. But tiles it is and I think I will survive them. Re: Colorbond v's tile 47Aug 30, 2009 9:22 pm Wind or birds sitting on the ariel. The movement can cause interfearance. Re: Colorbond v's tile 49Aug 30, 2009 9:38 pm Tornado_ALIVE Wind or birds sitting on the ariel. The movement can cause interfearance. I was a bit curious about this too but we are using a really old (25 years+) curly ariel at the moment and with the set top box it works pretty good, I was thinking why would we spend 100's of $$ on a ariel in the new place? Re: Colorbond v's tile 50Sep 03, 2009 1:27 pm My parents have had colorbond for twenty years and would never go to tiles. They have a external digital TV aerial and I don't think we have ever had the problem of a bird aitting on it and we live in country right next to the bush. And about the build up of anything..... look everything needs replacing one day no matter what you get but its been proven that colorbond last longer and is cheaper to replace... and with colorbond you don't have to worry about your tiles blowing away in the winds we have been having But everyone prefers something different. Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10187 Hi all, Our boundary perimeter fences need replacing (3 sides). From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 2864 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 17657 |
