Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 05, 2007 5:42 pm I have an old spa in the back yard and would like to turn it into a sand pit for the boy and the bub on the way. I would like some suggestion on what to do. Have a look at the pics and let me know.
On one side I need to cover a gap, and i also need to make some sort of cover for the pit and maybe a shade for the sunny days. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Sand Pit 3Jun 05, 2007 7:00 pm Cookiemonster, I was thinking the same…LOL
Fill it ALL with sand; the kiddies are not going to appreciate a nice garden around it, so give them something else to play with. Possibly use the side space to stick an umbrella or other kiddie things of interest. You can pick up cheap covers in the way of sails to do the job of covering it. It’s a nice looking spot; I think the kids will love it! Also I'd be very very wary about making the sand so deep. I'd at least cover the deep bottom 'core' and just fill the top half. Re: Sand Pit 5Jun 05, 2007 10:57 pm Cabin,
good point! perhaps fill the bottom circle with sand(or dirt) then cover with wood or polystyrene , fill halfway with same again, and fill the last half with kids sand. Dont forget to drill lots of large holes in the bottom for drainage though! Matt Re: Sand Pit 7Jun 06, 2007 9:29 am How about (or Hoo aboot -as my 5yo would say) filling it with those plastic balls instead of sand? You know the sort that you find a play centres. It seems such a waste to have something so perfect and deep and use it for sand.
You can get a shell half type sand pit an put it next to the ball filled spa - there should be plenty of space. If you really want to go for it, then use another shell half in the other corner with lego or other toys. A triagular tarp over the top will help keep the sun and rain out but probably best to lower it a bit and oversize it. 3xb (a big kid at heart) Thanks for that, the PVC pipe is still about 40cm below ground level and it sticks out of the sand with no end cap or anything on it just open pipe, is this the finished… 2 10468 I'm putting a new floor in my kitchen, slate flagging on a standard concrete slab.
