We moved into a shiny renovated house for enormous rent (well, for us) when we knocked our old house down and waited to start the build. A day or so after we signed the contract, my wife saw the house on realestate.com.au for sale. We were not happy. The real estate agent swore that it was no longer for sale, that it was coming off the web, that they wanted to rent it out and had no intention of selling it.
4 months later it was back on the market and the inspections started. three times a week. I'd get home from work to screaming kids would be at our door with the agent.
Finally it sold and we were only too keen to move on, and then the next phase started - the impossible process of getting all of our enormous bond back. We killed ourselves cleaning that place because enormous rent (800/week) = enormous bond.
We ended up moving 5 doors down the road to a friends house while she is overseas. It is a shack - half the rent - the bathroom floor just collapsed under the bath - but I can tell you we love it compared to what we went through.
I don't care that the fence is falling over, there is one toilet in the single bathroom, no off street parking, an outside laundry - in two months we will be in our home, and now we don't have to deal with real estate agents.
