Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 17, 2009 3:23 pm Hi, we recently had some one knock on our door regarding roof restoration. we ended up getting a quote as the roof is in pretty bad shape. we have a very small 3 bedroom 1970s single story house. well to cut a long story short the guy was there for 2 hours on saturday and then gave us a quote for over $5000. Im a bit shocked at the price as he mentioned it wouold be max 2 days work. Has anyone else had this done? is this a standard price? Re: roof restoration 2Aug 17, 2009 3:52 pm Had this done about 4 years ago. Single story brick veneer, concrete tile roof ~160sq/m, melb eastern burbs. Had quotes ranging from $1300-$7000. Ended up paying $1750. Bloke was there for an average of 5hours a day for 5 days. My advice now, if the company wants to send a salesman round, find someone else. The guy I went with I just told him the measurements and he left the quote in the letterbox. Re: roof restoration 3Aug 17, 2009 3:56 pm Door to door sales me irritate me. I think they try to prey on those who had never really considered it and so wouldn't be informed and hope that they then don't start getting quotes - that's the theory anyway! If you are considering, research it well and get other quotes 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Re: roof restoration 5Aug 17, 2009 4:38 pm What exactly is he quoting for? What exactly do you want done? I can understand if you really want a different colour, but I have heard of people who only needed a few chipped tiles replaced and some pointing done and got talked into having the whole "sealing" make-over. If not done right it can create a whole lot of new problems too. Definitely get a few quotes. Re: roof restoration 6Aug 17, 2009 4:59 pm There is repairs that need doing on the concrete work and some tiles need replacing. Just had a very irate conversation with them as i rang and said i would not be accepting quote and the manager was extremly rude and said it wasnt a quote but a contract and i was lucky it had a cooling off period.
