The bedrooms and lounge is carpeted but the hall, dining, kitchen and enterance is tiled on top of timber a timber floor. It is probably only 15 to 20 square metres of tiles and every about 2nd tile is cracked. Want to do it DIY to save some money. Any ideas???? Re: How do I remove tiles layed on a timber floor???? HELP 2Aug 14, 2009 10:48 pm Gday, use a jackhammer with tile removal blade very carefully. Try not to let the steel blade contact the timber surface too much as it will leave grooves/marks that may not be repairable. If the tiles stick to the floor too much you can try heating the top of the tile with a gas burner attached to a gas bottle. Before you start any of this try a hammer and coal chisel to see how easy they come off first so you can decide which is the correct equipment to hire.. I think Kennards concrete care hire the burners from memory. The heat applied to the tile surface will cause it to crack and allow easier removal. If the tile adhesive does not come off with the tile this will need to be removed with a timber floor sander to get it back to a bare timber surface. If you are saving $$ removing the tiles etc yourself spend the $$ saved on getting a professional to sand the timber floor and apply a good sealer.
