Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 31, 2007 8:10 am Good morning all, this is my first post here so bear with me if I have got anything wrong.
We are building with Porter Davis and of course getting a water tank. Now I have heard that if people claim the government rebate on having a water tank your council rates are increased because the tank is classed as an asset. Does anyone know if this is fact? Re: Rebates for having a water tank 2May 31, 2007 8:35 am I don't know if this is your situation, but generally water tanks that are 'required' as part of energy requirements for new homes do not come under the rebate scheme. Yes, I thought so too. In the Gold Coast council where we are building, rainwater tanks are mandatory and therefore you cannot claim a rebate. Re: Rebates for having a water tank 6May 31, 2007 9:37 am There is a rebate for installation of water tanks by a licensed plumber.
Builders will often install a water tanks system hooked up to toilets to achieve the 5 star rating (as someone has mentioned). That's why you can opt to have a solar boosted hot water system instead of the tank - it's about meeting the rating. Full details on rebates are here: http://www.ourwater.vic.gov.au/ourwater/dsenowof.nsf/childdocs/-F61FB15640315068CA257244007BE2EE?open Don't get too excited - PD will pocket the rebate. As for council rates - if there's any extra improvement to the house by adding a tank, the increase in rates would be pretty small. Not worth worrying about imho. Yes Peter I totally agree with that !! Re: Rebates for having a water tank 9May 31, 2007 9:53 am Thanks guys, follow up to all the posts. Yes it's a 4550 litre tank, we are building in Lyndhurst Melb, it's hooked up to the toilets and not sure if it's part of the 5 star energy rating. But I would be a little annoyed to hear that Porter Davis would be pocketing the rebate, but if I hear that I'll certainly be having words to them about it. Re: Rebates for having a water tank 10May 31, 2007 10:12 am The 5 star requirement in Vic is for either a min. 2000L tank or solar hot water service.
There are no rebates. Peter Clarkson - AusDesign Australia www.ausdesign.com.au This information is intended to provide general information only. It does not purport to be a comprehensive advice. Re: Rebates for having a water tank 11May 31, 2007 12:27 pm When I asked our builder about the rebate for the solar HWS, they said that they had factored the rebate into the price of the house/HWS. This was in Vic.
3xb Re: Rebates for having a water tank 12May 31, 2007 2:30 pm There is a small rebate available on solar hws's under the Federal Governments 'Renewable Energy Certificate' scheme. The amount varies depending upon the product.
The Vic gov. rebate of up to $1500 applies only to existing homes. Hope that clarifies.
