Browse Forums General Discussion Re: While Designing your Garage…… 62Jun 19, 2007 5:42 am Oh, I don't know, I think a pit could be quite versatile!
I am sure though that it is illegal, I am just trying to find out what the rules and regulations are. A hoist is a great idea - hadn't thought of that. Thanks perryr. Annie K Re: While Designing your Garage…… 63Jun 19, 2007 9:40 am Pits can have other issues - drainage being one, and the EPA don't like them unless you have a grease seperator system (start at $5K+).
I have a hoist now, but the issue is getting enough height to use it, so it is now installed at my bother-in-law's workshop where I can use it as I please. Most people I know who have had pis have filled them in due to child safety reasons. On the average car these days, you don't have to raise them real high to do an oil change anyway - all 3 of my commodores only need to be driven up onto 4" high timbers (4 x2 & then 4 x 4 lumps) to get more than enough clearance to do the regular oil & filter changes. Anyone with a soft-roader or 4wd will have more than enough clearance to not even need that. Re: While Designing your Garage…… 64Oct 18, 2007 2:44 pm I know that this is an older topic, but thought that i would ressurect it as we have new users who might want to add their 2 cents.
Our new garage will be 8m x 6.5m. We really wanted a triple but the block wouldn't allow us, so we placed the house as close as we could to the boundary (2m because it's classed as a corner block) and took the garage to the boundary line. It has roller door to rear which will help too. When we renovated our old place, we took down the 2 car carport and replaced it with a 2.5 car garage measuring over 8.5 x 7.5. We did not have enough side access though to add in a roller door to the rear of the garage. We have also offset our garage door so that we have room for the fridge in the garage, a workbench and the dryer. Just for hubby, the walls will have his V8 racing merchandise, model cars, car bonnets(from a race car ), racing team pic's, pics of cars hubby has built (in his past life- before me), and hopefully if there is any room left, racks for the bikes. He wants to put a TV and stereo in there to listen to while he "works" too. One thing i would recommend to you all, is we also had a manhole in the garage and hubby lay a floor in the roof trusses so that we could store things like old clothes, toys, christmas tree, suitcases etc up there. It was fantastic, but one drawback, out of sight out of mind....unpacking it to move was like Christmas!!! We found a lot of things that we forgot about! Definitely going to do the same at the new place. No probs, i get MY theatre room, he gets HIS garage. I think that's fair. Where we are renting at the moment we have a single car garage which has lots of stuff - bbq, bookcases, blow up mattress etc - I park in front of the garage (driveway) and my man parks on the street....I don't think we will park two cars in the garage when we get into our new house, driveways are ok and there is plenty of street parking!!
