Browse Forums General Discussion Re: brick footings 2Aug 01, 2009 7:08 pm Hi there! Check what causes the movement. The simplest method is to drill holes at a slight angle next to the foundation down to hard ground and fill with 20 Mpa concrete to the underside of the footing. You can drill them with a hired petrol driven drill. If the length of the footing affected is great, drill holes spaced, insert 16 mm dia metal rods in the ground with hammer 150 mm underside of bricks in such a way that half of the rod is in the hole , half in the ground, before pouring concrete in the holes. After pouring all holes, remove ground in between the holes , tie 16 mm bars to the previously installed rods and pour concrete. A reinforced concrete beam will be created under the bricks. For other solutions, put up more details of the problem. Cheers Re: brick footings 3Aug 03, 2009 3:53 pm buildflex Hi there! Check what causes the movement. Reason Im asking is, your advising a pretty extreme structural restrenghting proposal there, you may find that if carried out in an incorrect manner, you'll do more harm than good. This kind of rectification work is not for the weekend DIY'er. And it should be certified by a structural engineer prior to even entertaining this advice. Pat. Re: brick footings 4Aug 03, 2009 6:12 pm No offence buildflex Good question Pat. Brick footings could be brick piers. You need to find the source of the problem before you consider major works, or it could be wasted. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... 2 8358 I should have followed up on this thread. So, the pier foundation wasn't large enough on the side it was leaning towards, and the NBN cable went through the pier, just… 8 12123 Just be careful with building stability during construction, that is when the structure may be weakened, refer to your engineering drawings for stability methodology. 1 7223 |
