Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 31, 2009 5:19 pm Okay.. So me and DP think it might be a good idea to get some people in to share our new house with us for a few years to make finances easier to manage and pay some personal loans off sooner. We wouldn't be looking at having anyone for the first 6months, because we want to really enjoy just the two of us for a little bit in our brand new home. We are lucky to have recieved the FHOG and I know that you arn't able to rent the property out.. but if we are still living there, can we share our house and let out our 2 spare rooms for a weekly $$ or will this be against the rules? I can't find ANYTHING on the site that relates to boarders.. Anyone know? Also if anyone has any advice or tips on sharing with strangers.. that would be great. Thanks. Re: FHOG and Share Accomodation 2Jul 31, 2009 5:26 pm As long as you are living there you can have whoever you like boarding. Hmmm I don't like sharing, had 2 many things stolen in the past . Just remember it's not just your boarders but your boarders friends too in your house. Sorry to be doom and gloom, I am sure you will find someone lovely to share with I got told that overseas students work out quite well. Building with Homebuyers Centre El Questro! Yep, am quite aware there are lots of nasty people out their.. or people that have nasty friends. I'm sorry you had things taken. I've shared with a LOT of people over my time.. hopefully we can find someone honest. Would love students but we arn't close to public transport or any universities, so that might not be a disadvantage. Re: FHOG and Share Accomodation 5Jul 31, 2009 5:34 pm Ari Since when aren't you allowed to rent it out? Unless its changed, as long as you live there for the required time, you can do what you like with it. I know you have to reside in the property for 12months (therefore meaning you can't 'rent' it out), but I wasn't sure if we'd get in trouble for making money from the property by letting rooms out while you live there. Re: FHOG and Share Accomodation 6Jul 31, 2009 5:35 pm Its not 12 months. "At least one applicant will occupy the home as their principle place of residence for a continuous period of six months, commencing within 12 months of settlement or construction of the home. " Re: FHOG and Share Accomodation 8Jul 31, 2009 5:40 pm Ari err hang on...I better check that. It might be old info eta: no, its still the correct info. You only need to live there for 6 months Hmm.. sorry, Thank's Ari! I'm not sure where I got 12months from. Re: FHOG and Share Accomodation 10Jul 31, 2009 5:57 pm Ari I still cant see anywhere on the site that says you cant rent out a room even from day 1 (as long as you live there). I can't see anything either.. that's why I thought i'd clairfy. Building with PD - Regent 23 Cascades on Clyde Estate HomeOne Building Thread - PCI Completed - 28th August. Handover - 11th September. Re: FHOG and Share Accomodation 11Jul 31, 2009 5:57 pm If your going to share with strangers it's important to have a clear set of rules as to how things will operate ie. what they will and not have to contribute to (including housework & yard maintenance) and a suitable dress code for the common areas of the house. You may laugh about the dress code thing but after having the displeasure of getting home from uni (many years ago) to the sight of your naked housemate ****** in the middle of the living room watching tv this becomes important.
